Academy Task 5: Atlético Medellin - Warmup's Over
#1
Atlético Medellin had a rough start to the season but has started to slowly turn things around as new players have joined the club and strengthened all areas of the field. I'd like to take you through an overview of how their season has turned out so far.

Game 1: Stockholm IK 2-0 Atlético
The first game of the season showed early what Atlético's strengths and weaknesses were. Solid possession numbers, good ball control and movement, but without managing a single shot on target. This effort told us there may be something here, but it's not goal scoring.

Game 2: Atlético 0-2 Sydney City
The score of this game makes it look a lot closer than it was. Atlético appeared to be playing with the mindset of "quality over quantity" as they owned the possession game, giving Sydney little to work with. But once again barely creating any chance. This time only registering one shot on target. While Sydney managed six in total.

After the second game of the season Atlético received some help to strengthen their midfield through Chef Gagne, Bengt Rubin, and Gary McGary.

Game 3: Atlético 2-0 Victoria Falls
Things quickly turned around with the new players on the field, awarding Atlético with their first win. Turning the numbers around on their opponents, not allowing a single shot on target. While going 2 for 2 on their own.

Game 4: Sydney City 3-0 Atlético
Sydney showed themselves to be too much once again, even against an improved Atlético squad. This time Atlético put up a much better fight, actually producing scoring chances. But the Sydney goalie turned out to be too much for them.

Game 5: Atlético 2-2 Stockholm IK
The second game against SIK played out a lot more even than the first, and became a game of the goalie. Both teams disregarded defense and Atlético managed a so far unbelievable 20 shot attempts with 9 hitting the target. Although it was only enough for a tie.

Game 6: Victoria Falls 6-0 Atlético
This is a game Atlético doesn't want to talk about. The coach forgot to field a left defensemen which allowed Victoria to sneak past whenever they wanted.

At this point goal scoring was still a key need of Atlético. So they called in Jinchou Nootazuki to turn things around.

Game 7: Stockholm IK 2-3 Atlético
Yet another close game against SIK. But the addition of Nootazuki showed to have been a game changer. As he scored a hattrick his first game. Being named the PoM, and giving Atlético some confidence as they're about to move into the second half of the season.

Game 8: Atlético 3-2 Sydney City
At this point Atlético has become a team that can create a good fight against any other team in the league. Creating many more chances and scoring on most of them. Winning this game allowed Atlético to climb up to 3rd in the standings for the first time this season.

It's now difficult to point out any potential weaknesses in the Atlético team. They've always been good at possession and ball movement, but now they also have a fleshed out defensive line plus a striker who simply can't stop scoring.
