WSFC Roster Announcement: Benelux
#1

Introducing Benelux!

The smallest federation by surface area is arriving to the World Simulation Football Classic in style. Their logo captures the spirit of the competition; three nations united in sport. Meanwhile their kit showcases the individual flavor of their two primary nations. The home kit leaning into their Belgian identity, opting for Dutch flavor when they are the away side.

Now let’s have a look at who will be donning these shirts:

Core Veterans
Edwin van der Sloth - @slothfacekilla
Furious Chicken - @FuriousChicken
Jean-Claude Goddamn - @BUM®

Three veterans stand out as key members of the Benelux team. Not only are the trio a threat on the pitch, but they also have been instrumental in developing the locker room culture for our tiny federation. Each has been flexible to adapt to the needs of the team, but expect them to shine in roles similar to those they fulfill for their club. Goddamn a constant scoring threat in and around the box, Chicken putting in work all over the pitch and providing excellent service from their full back position and on set pieces, and van der Sloth tasked with a bit more of a creative role on his familiar right flank.

Sophomore Starters
Hercule Hefeweizen - @Wiggli
Nerve De Groot - @SpiNz001
Hannah van Garritsen - @Reno

Beyond the veterans, this next trio of players have all started to make a name for themselves in the major league, but still have a lot of growing up to do. In this WSFC they’ll be asked to take the next step in their development. For Hefeweizen this means plugging a gap in the federation’s defensive line, while De Groot will take his athletic presence into a central striker role, and van Garritsen will use their versatility and speed as a fullback.

Youth Movement
Aart de Trella - @trëlla
Carolien Miedema - @LtForestPuppy
LaBamba Ball - @MoistNavel
Zach Mulder - @MightyMulder

Entering into this WSFC cycle there were many unknowns with regard to how the rest of the roster would fill out. Thankfully a tremendous infusion of youth talent has shown up to fill out the roster. Miedema and Trella stand out not only as strong performers but also active members of the locker room. Expectations are high for each. Trella will need to stand tall as a central defender, but don’t be surprised if the sneaky scorer also tallies a goal or two. Miedema will be tasked with filling in the team’s central midfield, though hopefully they will still find a way to employ their wide playmaker skill set from that position. Ball and Mulder have been quieter during the buildup to the competition, but still fill key roles. Ball will provide stability as a more defensive minded central midfielder, while Mulder will be a scoring threat from the left flank.

Journeymen
Felix van Neuer - @39alaska39
Nachi Bergkamp - @Nachiwrld
Lewis Monsieur - @xzlouke
Jan Van Doorne - @Nathan_8

And as with any proud footballing community there will always be a handful of replacement level players at the periphery. These four individuals have been called up to round out the squad, and in many ways success or failure depends on their performance. In particular the pair of keepers van Neuer and Monsieur, their ability to perform may be what decides the final standing of the federation.

Balancing a core of grizzled veterans with a heaping helping of hopeful youngsters Benelux has high hopes for the WSFC. While the future promises great things, the entire squad is motivated to compete while the elder statesmen are still in their prime. And if all else fails they plan to have fun and look good doing it.
