Paris Matchday 6
#1
AS Paris went into a Matchday 6 match up with Athenai F.C. in 2nd place in the league, outperforming most pundits Pre-season expectations of a midtable side. On matchday 6 they faced a tough Athenai side, but a couple of points behind them in the race to track down Montreal and compete for a Minor league title.

AS Paris dominated the opening minutes, controlling the ball for the opening quarter of the game but unable to find a breakthrough, with nothing more than a couple of corners to show for it. Moving the ball well through the centre of the park, a couple of gaps started to appear in the Athenai defense, as Wince clipped a first time ball through to Belmont. Belmont sprinted onto the through ball and powered past the stranded centreback before smashing the ball into the bottom corner for his 6th goal of the season. A well deserved AS Paris lead.

This appeared to be the wake up call that Athenai needed, as following the goal they started to string a few passes together. Although Aguilera was forced into a couple of saves, and Athenai awarded a couple of corners, they didn't threaten the Paris goal much.

And Paris looked good for it, leading the xG by 1.77 to 0.36.

The second half started slowly, and continued slowly, with neither team really able to make their mark. Half chances fell for both teams but Paris just didn't seem able to put the game to bed. Until the midfield maestro Wince found Angry Lizard inside the box who smacked the ball first time past the keeper to double the Paris lead.

And that was all she wrote. A comfortable victory for Paris, maintaining 60% possession throughout the 90 minutes and leading the xG by 3.09 to 0.56.
