GRADED: Hercule Takes Stock
#1
Lacing up his boots as the final week kicks off, Hercule reflects on his first season with his new organization. Kaapstad remains in contention for top of the table sitting with an impressive 25 points, but Montreal looks to be clear with their 30 points. Hefeweizen deduced his team would compete for the title this year and they truly were a threat all season. Following their Matchday 12 loss to Montreal, however, their chance to finish atop the mountain seems to have crumbled. After a close first half the two top teams were tied two apiece, but Kaapstad’s flat second half was not good enough to see it through.

Hefeweizen left it all on the field with another in a string of admirable performances, leading all players across both teams with 9.2 km traversed and 51 completed passes. Though he accumulated no xG his two key passes and two chances created showed he was successful in linking up the backline to his talented forwards. Montreal poured on the pressure throughout the game but Hercule stood up to the task, succeeding in all 4 of his tackle attempts one of which was key, and coming out on top in 7 of his 8 aerial contests. His game was not perfect, however, he fell behind his usual numbers with only 2 interceptions in the match and only 2 dribbles. Montreal’s strong midfield pairing of Maximiliano and Millwall kept the Belgian from truly dominating this important contest.

Closing the book on that game, Hercule has but a pair of opportunities left to round out his debut in the southern hemisphere. An important test against North Shore looms to sew up second place in the league, and then in the final week against London. Both matches are at home, which should give our burgeoning star a good platform to make his final statement. He’s certainly in the conversation for team of the season, being one of the top performers at his defensive midfield position. Just as he showed up in so many stats in the match against Montreal, Hercule is in the top 10 across a number of stats (distance run, passes, interceptions, headers) and not far off the pace in many others (tackles, dribbles, blocks) while giving away very few if any bad plays (cards, fouls, mistakes leading to goals).

Hefeweizen finishes affixing his boots with a final pull on his laces and instinctually gives his mustache a trademark twirl as he gets ready to take the field. The season maybe wasn’t all he dreamed it could be, but still a very solid start to the next chapter in his career.
