Montreal United finish as 2nd this season. Much better than 5th last season, though still chasing that high from winning the Minor league 2 seasons ago. For Predrag it was a season of personal success. He finished as the third top scorer in the league, scoring more than his Academy season and more than double from his first professional season. The Predrag from last season would have said that it wasn't enough. Second place was just first loser, that's how he thought, but that's not him anymore.
The whole organization is going to be hit hard for the next few seasons, it's now up to him to steady the ship, both with tactics and with his scoring ability. Both Montreal and Schwartzwalder need time to grow back into what they were. Predrag knows that now and knows nobody is expecting him to carry the world, so neither should he. Besides that, teams win games, not individuals. He needs to work with his young teammates to persevere through the next few seasons.
The older players are starting to fall behind and a few player left to join the expansion teams. The spots will be filled with fresh Academy faces and now it's Predrag's job to show them the ropes. Predrag is still only on the rise so he will get better and better, a perfect time to show just how much he can provide to the team both in games and outside of them.
He started doing morning runs every day. Not for conditioning, not for punishment, but just because it was fun. He has a dream job, he's respected and he's competent. Everything a person could ask for. He truly doesn't have anything to worry about, so to dirty his own mind with thoughts of inferiority and inadequacy was silly. He just liked running. It was one of the reasons why he loved football. It was one of the purest ways to show your confidence in yourself. Running is one of the things humans are best at after all and he's never felt faster before. Sure, all that constant working out has had an effect, but it was leaving the mental baggage behind that lifted the most weight.
He was going to give his best for Montreal, every game and every 90 minutes. With that in mind, he set and ambitious goal for himself 30 G/A. He scored 19 goals and got 3 assists this season so to him getting 8 more wasn't too difficult. At the end of the day, reaching this goal wasn't actually going to do anything, neither would failing to reach it have any consequence. It was a fun challenge he set for himself, because at the end of the day football is and always was supposed to be a fun game to play.
After he finished his morning run, he made his way to the tactic room. He already had a few ideas in mind, the team knew and were used to his strange tendencies. They already trusted him but now Predrag learned that trust was genuine. He got to work with drafting up a few preset tactics for the next season, he made it his personal goal to tweak at least one thing for every match, just to mess with the players, both his own and the opponents.
Content with his work for the day, Predrag started making his way back to his apartment. He stopped the gym to talk to some of his fellow players, as he turned to leave everything went black and he was out cold. He would wake up later only to find out his teammates knocked him out and dragged him to Brazil to force him to take a vacation. They also didn't set him up with anything. No room, no money, no contacts. Not because they were malicious, they just actually forgot.
I'll be writing more about Predrag's adventures in Brazil so make sure to read then to see how he makes his way back to Canada!
