The Daily Bear Presents: An Interview with Larv Itar
#1
Welcome to a special editorial from The Daily Bear. This publication normally operates over in the ISFL, but today we are joined by special guest Larv Itar who has just finished his first season in the SSL. Originally a goal keeper, he joined the academy late and entered the draft having played zero games. A shock draft pick at number eight by C.D Tenochtitlan, he was moved out of goal and into a central defender position. Plans to make use of his size and speed quickly became apparent. I am here to ask him some questions about his season, his plans for the future and how the locker room is in Krung Thep.

Thank you for joining me today. You finished the season with 4 wins, 4 draws and 14 losses for a total of 16 points. How tough is that as a young player to deal with?
Well you know Bear, it's never easy to be drafted high and have such a tough start to the season. I've come into this place, have swapped from a position I've played my whole life and had to learn something new. It definitely comes with it's challenges. The guys have made it easy for me though. Apostle and Al-Kazmi are always hyping us up, focusing on what we can do better and being leaders in the locker room.

You talk about how difficult it is to learn something new, and some might say you're focusing on the wrong part of the game. That you spend too much time in the gym focusing on speed work. That the game of football is more than just running fast. What do you have to say about that?
I have to get used to the speed of the game. I can have all the technique in the world, but if I can't keep up with the better strikers in the league, then all those skills are useless. Coming out onto the pitch, I realised quickly that If I didn't get up to speed with the strikers like Dobric, I wouldn't stand a chance. It's much better for me to focus on the fundamentals at this stage and then I can work on my skills as I settle into the game over the next season.

What has been your highlight of this season?
I managed to score a goal against Seoul towards the end of the season. As a defender, opportunities don't come my way often, so I have to take them when I can. I was a bit of a battleship out there and my turn took about 5 minutes, but I did manage to score.

And your lowlight?
Our 3-7 loss against F.C. Kapstaad a few weeks ago was a rough one. I let up too many goals, and lost in the air. My focus next season is definitely going to be my aerials.

Thank you for taking the time to speak to me today Larv. It's been a pleasure and I wish you all the best for next season. There we have it, a fantastic young player who is looking to develop and hopefully his team can do better next season. That's it from The Daily Bear.
