The start of the new season in the SSL brought about a lot of changes among my team, CS Rova Mpanjaka. With promotion and relegation in the minors division coming to the table after this season, every match would be critical to earn enough points to make it to the top half of the league. Some of the best players from our thrilling sixth-place finish last season were gone, including starting goalkeeper Snor Lax and last season's breakout stars Alex Stain and Takeda Takahashi, but we would also have several exciting players coming in through the latest rookie class and both of our strikers Tank Denstro and Heung-Man Smalls were returning as well.
One thing that had been very fortuitous throughout both mine and my sister's professional sports careers so far was that we seemed to be in very similar circumstances these days. Caitlin's Quebec City Citadelles had dealt with a lot of call-ups to their SHL teams in the offseason and had chosen to enter a rebuild, trading away several of the team's older players. As one of the most experienced players on the defense, she'd be taking on a larger role to help the underpowered defense develop and win games for the team. While Rova hadn't torn down their roster, I'd still need to be ready to take a bigger role in the offense. My adjustment period had somewhat passed last season, so if I could provide a steady option on the offense for the younger players up front on Rova I could really work to prove myself for a potential future call-up to the big club and finally achieving my dream.
