Minor S23 Comparisson VS S22
#1
With the season now over and the champions and final positions decided, I have decided to look at the differences between last season and this season final standings to see the improvement / decline of any team.

AS Paris
S22 - Champions - 61 points
S23 - Champions - 55 points

S22 Goals Scored - 85
S23 Goals Scored - 84

S23 Goals Against - 11
S23 Goals Against - 23

It's hard to be critical of a team that finished champions again, scored 1 less goal, conceded 12 extra and won the league by 9 points. So I won't be. This is another superb season by AS Paris and their dominance was there for all to see throughout the season. Driven on by Belmont who fired in 25+ goals in the league for the 3rd season running which ensures they are always in the game with their attacking threat. Lets not forget Tarandus, Lizard and Berendsen providing the all important final ball. They are the pace setters and standard bearer of the minors and will take shifting from top spot.

F.C. Kaapstad
S22 - 2nd - 50 points
S23 - 2nd - 49 points

S22 Goals Scored - 80
S23 Goals Scored - 76

S22 Goals Against - 28
S23 Goals Against - 27

Less points, less goals scored and a minimal improvement in defence. They would have hoped for better. Again, it's hard to be critical but when you finish 2nd and not as champions it's easier to point at what could have been. Ashworth, Dohbra and Brooks all hitting well into double figures goal wise shows they are dangerous from all over the pitch with plenty of assists and goals coming from others. They will perhaps see this as a missed opportunity with their performance being a slight regression from last season when a slight improvement could have seen them closer to AS Paris and potentially champions themselves in the right circumstances.

CS Rova Mpanjaka
S22 - 6th - 39 points
S23 - 3rd - 44 points

S22 Goals Scored - 63
S23 Goals Scored - 51

S22 Goals Against - 56
S23 Goals Against - 36

They will be absolutely thrilled with their improvement. A slight drop in goals scored was adjusted by a big improvement defensively. When you can keep 20 additional goals from being scored it will make a difference throughout the season. With Denstro, Hughes-Galloway and Smalls being their main focus in attack, they will hope they continue to click and score further goals while the improvement defensively provides them with a foundation to turn losses into draws and draws into wins in the future.

AF Masques Sacrés
S22 - 7th - 32 points
S23 - 4th - 43 points

S22 Goals Scored - 54
S23 Goals Scored - 44

S22 Goals Against - 44
S23 Goals Against - 31

Very similar case to CS Rova Mpanjaka were they will be over the moon with the improvement this year on the back of a better defence. Grabbing an extra 11 points was huge in getting confirmation into division 1 for next year. They relied alot on Munro for the goals (19) but Walker scored his fair share (9) with Warrick, Lam and McNeil doing the hard work with the assists. With the right draft picks and further improvement next year, they will be hoping to solidify themselves further.

Krung Thep FC
S22 - 10th - 16 points
S23 - 5th - 33 points

S22 Goals Scored - 58
S23 Goals Scored - 54

S22 Goals Against - 70
S23 Goals Against - 54

I don't think anyone could have seen this improvement coming. Perfectly balanced this season (as all things should be) regarding goals scored and against, but the points jump is massive. Conceding goals is never something any team wants to do but conceding 70 goals in a 22 game season (3.18 goals per game) makes it near impossible to compete. That was fixed to an extent and definitely will have played a huge part in the jump for them. Having 2 players hit into double figures goals wise (Machado - 13 & Bloodflame - 12) and another two falling just short on 9 goals each (al-Kazmi & Stro) shows they are a talented team that can score goals from anywhere. Underestimate them at your peril.

Montréal United
S22 - 4th - 42 points
S23 - 6th - 33 points

S22 Goals Scored - 69
S23 Goals Scored - 57

S22 Goals Against - 45
S23 Goals Against - 67

While they managed to just hold onto 6th and take the final spot in division 1 next year, this was a year of decline and one that will need addressed. 22 extra goals to contend against and less goals to counter-act them meant they weren't close to the team they were last year. If (and it was a big if) Silakka didn't play well, they tended to struggle. 12 goals and 17 assists showed Silakka to be central to anything they did with Minjong being the beneficiary of most of the assists, managing to get 21 goals themselves. Outside of these two, there were flashes of talent but no consistency.

Seoul MFC
S22 - 3rd - 47 points
S23 - 7th - 32 points

S22 Goals Scored - 64
S23 Goals Scored - 50

S22 Goals Against - 30
S23 Goals Against - 41

They will have been thinking pre-season about division 1, they end up in division 2 and questions regarding the drop off. Heung-Min hit 12 goals with the other goals coming all across the team but they will need more from the team going forward or for someone to step up to help. They are probably the favourites for Division 2 title next season but they will need a good draft will help their rebuild as a 15 point drop on season before is never good enough for a team of this size.

North Shore United
S22 - 8th - 30 points
S23 - 8th - 29 points

S22 Goals Scored - 69
S23 Goals Scored - 49

S22 Goals Against - 57
S23 Goals Against - 54

More of the same from North Shore United. Same position, near identical on points, slight improvement with the defence but big decline in the offense. Banana and James with 15 goals apiece will be players to build around with assists being spread around the rest of the squad. Another rebuild needed but with pieces there already to build around.

Inter London
S22 - 12th - 1 point
S23 - 9th - 25 points

S22 Goals Scored - 29
S23 Goals Scored - 41

S22 Goals Against - 146
S23 Goals Against - 49

After that horror show of a season in S22, improvement was always going to be had. Defence last season had more holes than a swiss cheese so a 97 goal swing here is of course massive but 146 is and always will be ridiculous. Kovács with 16 goals gives them something to work with and will hope further players will improve and step up to help in Division 2 next year.

Rapid Magyar SC
S22 - 5th - 39 points
S23 - 10th - 24 points

S22 Goals Scored - 50
S23 Goals Scored - 37

S22 Goals Against - 40
S23 Goals Against - 45

Division 1 would have been their target, unfortunately for them they were on a boat, aimed for water and hit land. Decline everywhere, no improvement and will need to step up their performances next season. Only Albinson hit double figures (10) goals and 9 assists, so they should look to build around him next season. Big draft ahead for them.

Cairo City
S22 - 11th - 5 points
S23 - 11th - 6 points

S22 Goals Scored - 30
S23 Goals Scored - 25

S22 Goals Against - 94
S23 Goals Against - 77

I suppose 1 extra point is an improvement, I guess only conceding 77 goals is 17 better. But that appears to be it. They are still in an early rebuild phase and they do need rebuilt. Bobby was their top scorer with 8 goals. A lot of reliance of a new player but he more than held his own. Will need the rest of the team to burden extra responsibility to see further improvement. Another team were the draft cannot come soon enough.

Athénai F.C.
S22 - 9th - 20 points
S23 - 12th - 6 points

S22 Goals Scored - 42
S23 Goals Scored - 29

S22 Goals Against - 72
S23 Goals Against - 93

They would have been eyeing more of the same and moving further up the table. Instead this was a disastrous season. Less goals scored, more goals conceded (on an already high total) and this all leads to less points and a last place finish. Rivers with 15 goals scoring just over half their league goals shows the issue. Help is needed all over the pitch. Defence will need major revamp. Team to watch in the draft as they will grab any and all talent they can.
