The time has finally come as Season 24 kicks off tomorrow.
This is the first in the new format for the league and I think will make for a lot more competitive football throughout the course of the season. Gone are the days where a top of the table team gets 2 games and 6 easy points against a cellar dweller. In is a shortened season against nothing but similar leveled opponents and promotion and relegation on everyones mind from the first touch of the ball.
Liffeyside and Rova both got into the top tier divisions with their performance last season a bit surprising since it was only our 2nd season in existence.
But now that we are here, we are wanting to prove we are here to stay.
Our first match for the majors side will be against Shanghai. While total team TPE looks like it would favor Liffeyside a deeper dive shows that not to quite be the case. Liffey has 13 players rostered to Shanghai's 11. That gives the Dragons a better per player average TPE of 1396 to 1244. The advantage that we are hoping to have is being able to bring in fresh legs at the half and hopefully be a 2nd half killer team. Keep it close early, and finish them off in the second half. That is the Liffey mantra this season.
Looking down on the farm in Rova we are matching up against Montreal in MD1. Same thing here where Rova holds a TPE advantage 9216 to 8787 however as Montreal only has 12 players to Rovas 13 the average TPE favors Montreal 732 - 709. Very close here so I think this one will come down to tactics and a fast start. Rova was able to show last season they were a team to fear, but one of their biggest goal scoring threats was promoted to Liffeyside in Orla Hughes-Galloway so we will need to find some supplemental scoring from our newcomers Rocket, IloveZeagle, and Zweig to make up the difference.
Exciting stuff happening here in the SSL. And I can't wait for kickoff tomorrow to see where this season takes us!
