In this article I am currently going to discuss the season that the team at the top of the academy right now, The Victoria Falls Eagles are having. From data and concrete information all the way into my personal thoughts and feelings about this team as kind of an insider. Obviously, I am going to try to leave all of my bias at the door as best as I can.
Since it’s been tracked in the SSL Portal, this is statistically the Eagles’ best season. Even after just coming off of winning the league last year (S23), This team still seems to be in a rare type of form. In just 11 games this year, the Eagles have tied the wins of the last year's champions and gotten nearly a 10-point gap between goal differences with S23 at 16 and S24 at 24 (with 3 more games left). This is massively due to the attacking front, As well as the defensive side holding the opponent teams to few goals.
Speaking of the attacking front, the dangerous striking pair responsible for most of the goal scoring are Vivi Nefertari, and Armero Staple. Not to forget about the elite winger Phil Space, as well as newcomer Von Nyugen who had 3 assists in his first game. The captain Vyacheslav Shevchenko provides aid on both sides of the ball, and defender Ekon Ayo helps these attackers get the possessions to do what they do.
The striking pair of Vivi Nefertari and Armero Staple are doing incredible things on the pitch this academy season and are looking to be next year's rookies to watch. With 3 games left to go, the striking duo would be top 3 in average match rating since the S15 Academy with 10 or more games played. Nefertari has an average match rating of 8.38, and Staple has an average match rating of 8.18 catching fire in his last 5 games. These two also both have 18 G/A a piece with Staple having 14 goals and 4 assists, and Nefertari having 11 goals and 7 assists. Every game danger lurks from the 2 forwards on VFE.
The Eagles have not lost or drawn a game since the 5th Matchday. Meaning a 6-game long terror is what boosted their lead on the academy, which may be rewarded with an almost certain league title. After the 2-2 draw to Istanbul F.K, the Victoria Falls Eagles have then gone on to: 5-0 PS Jakarta, 7-1 Sydney City, 4-0 Istanbul F.K, 5-2 Port Royal F.C, 4-2 Adowa Accra FC, and 5-1 Athletico Medellin. This means in those 6 games the Eagles put up 30 combined goals and in return only gave up 6. This is both an absolute masterclass on the attacking side and an amazing job on the defensive side, bringing in total, an excellent result.
From my personal experience with VFE, it has been a really good time. A really active team and a really good coach is the base of what this team is. I expect a lot of Eagles to be drafted in the first round of the SSL S25 Draft.
