Marca: A Sit Down With Busquets: Thoughts about going back home, his rivalry with Torres, and what his Catalan identity means to him on his first season
Marca: So after a disappointing season in Athenai, it seems you've managed to find some form here in the SSL With only one game remaining, it looks like you'll manage a spot in the top half of the table here in your first season with newcomes CF Catalunya.
Budget Busquets: Well, yeah my time in Athenai wasn't the greatest. I was played out of position all season and the style generally didn't suit me. Here, at CF Catalunya, I feel like I'm playing the same style of football I've been playing since I was a kid. I enjoy the passing and movement that's come to define our club so early on. Going from being another player too to a leader has really helped me push myself to the next level. I feel like I've been one of the better players in the league this season and a cornerstone of this club's early success.
Marca: With the second season coming to an end, it looks like you'll be playing against Cairo City for your final game. There are reports that there is bad blood between you and Franco Torres of Cairo. Care to elaborate or squash said rumours.
Budget Busquets: Yeah, you know what? Fuck Franco Torres. It was rough seeing my rival win last season's MVP, but I smile everytime I see him missing another sitter this season. Torres is your typical arrogant Spaniard: he thinks he's the best and let's everyone know what he thinks of himself. Personally, I think he's overrated and I can't wait to beat him and Cairo to end the season. I underestimated Torres last time, but not this match. We're gonna play to win and that's that.
Marca: Well then, it seems a lot of the rivalry stems from the historical conflict between Spain and Catalonia. Do you identify as Spanish or Catalan, or both?
Budget Busquets: Well, that's a tough one to answer. I feel like I'm always gonna be Catalan first and foremost. Catalans accept me for who I am and to them, I'm just another guy. Sometimes, I feel like I am Spanish as well and want to embrace that part of myself, but Spaniards make it hard. When I'm good, I'm Spanish and when I'm bad I'm Catalan. I feel like it's all to easy to become a target in the Spanish media and I'm quite sick of it all. Lucky for me, there's a Catalan club in the SSL and we're trying to represent both Catalan and Spanish culture and excellence. I hope in time both Catalan and Spanish supporters can come to cherish this club and see the need for both to co-exist as independents.
