Scotts Scouting Scoop S25 #3
#1
Hello and welcome everyone, it is Scott the Scout here with another edition of Scott’s Scouting Scoop, and boy oh boy do I have a special one for you today.

This was an exciting, exciting matchday for the entire Academy. The games were a lot of blowout games, but for the neutrals they were very exciting, and we are really seeing a top pack, some leaders of the pack, forming right now.

But let’s get right into the games.

Atlético 3 – 0 Port Royal F.C.

Port Royal definitely went into this game as one of the favourites. They had a really good Matchday 1, and then they kind of fell back in Matchday 2, but they were looking to really regain themselves. But they were unable to do that at all, really.

Atlético showing that they have something in the tank, that they’re better than maybe some people are expecting them to be, as they were dispatched with ease.

Even though in the end the xG was pretty similar, Port Royal even had a little bit more possession, but in the end Atlético was just way more clinical, they ended up scoring three goals and leaving Port Royal wondering: is a formational switch needed? Is there something the coach can do? Do the players need to just work harder in training?

Only time will tell if they will be able to regain their good form from the first match, but there’s going to be some work that needs to be done there.

PS Jakarta 0 – 5 Stockholm IK

This game was absolute domination.

Stockholm, who already are looking like the clear favourites for the title at this point, opened the scoring through Geronimo Datbasted (@TescoValueThor ) . And then after that, it was the Arsene Cardinet (@ArsN ) and Dennis van Huntelrooy (@Jeanious ) show.

Some real big shoutouts to both of these players, especially Arsene Cardinet. Really impressive debut: 10.0 rating, three assists, two clear-cut chances created, and he ended up getting Player of the Match.

However, realistically, Dennis van Huntelrooy.... this man is anything and everything you want in a striker. He seems to be in the right place at the right time every single time, and when he is in that position, he doesn’t seem to miss.

He’s getting some tap-ins, he’s getting some really chaotic goals that maybe should not even go in, but he is finishing all of them, and it’s really impressive to see what this man has done so far.

He is currently the top goalscorer of the entire league with six goals in three games. If he keeps this up, he might break the entire Academy goal record. Things are looking bright for Dennis van Huntelrooy and for Stockholm in general.

Adowa Accra FC 5 – 1 Sydney City

This was a game where Adowa proved that the last match they played wasn’t a fluke. This new formation really is working, because they dominated this Sydney team.

Realistically, it seemed like this might have become a close game right at the start. Adowa came ahead with a penalty from Ewan Purves (@Ewan1245 ), and then Josh Harper immediately equalised, and it was looking like it was going to be a back-and-forth game.

But then Che Youz (@Youz ) once again managed to find two goals. This man has been on fire so far: four goals in three games, second-highest goalscorer of the entire league.

Special shoutout to Nick Kasak (@nckkss ) , who got three assists and four clear-cut chances created.

Adowa is currently firing on all cylinders, and if you then have Blaise N’Kufo (@McTruffles ), who finally gets off the stinky zero and scores his first goal of the season, Adowa Accra is solidly in second place right now. I think they are making a good argument that they’re going to be the fiercest competition for Stockholm this season.

Just to talk about Sydney a little bit: they tried going with a bit more defensive formation. It seemed to actually work a little bit at the start, but in the end it just made them unable to create anything.
They ended with 0.23 xG. Realistically, the goal they scored was a low xG shot anyway. I think they are going to need to tweak this a little bit to get more offensive chances.

To talk about Adowa's success I reached out to Che Youz for a comment:

Victoria Falls 4 – 0 İstanbul F.K.

This was a chaotic match. I think Victoria Falls is going to be very happy with the result, but realistically they have gotten a little lucky in this game.
I think if this game ended 2–2, it would still have been a fair result.

İstanbul actually ended with more xG than Victoria Falls had, so they are going to be a little worried, a little sad, disappointed. However, I think İstanbul looked better than they did in their previous matches, so I think it would be unwise to do a massive formation switch. I think what they came out here with was actually good. They managed to create chances. They just didn’t manage to score any of them, and they were also hurt by an own goal.

But Victoria Falls was just the more clinical team.
A special shoutout to Joe Mormor (@Haramcha ), who had an incredible game. He scored a beautiful goal. He did not end up getting Man of the Match, but two goals, one was a beautiful dribble, he was very involved in a lot of the attacks. Definitely one to watch for Victoria Falls.

Player of the Matchday

And then finally we have to talk about the Player of the Matchday, the very best player, in my opinion, of this matchday.

And I think there’s only one person this can go to:

Dennis van Huntelrooy (@Jeanious )

He did not get Player of the Match in the match itself, which went to Arsene, but I think scoring four goals in the way he did deserves this accolade.

10.0 rating. 2.6 xG created. All of this, very impressive.

And it would be crazy to not give this award for this week to Dennis van Huntelrooy.

An exiting matchday for sure! I will be watching the next one with great interest.

This has been another scouting scoop.
