What a game that was!
Heading into the game against Cairo we were sitting 4th and 3 points behind them. We knew it was an important game even this early into the season because we knew it was not only 3 points up for grabs, it was a statement of intent. A statement to the rest of the league that we were here to challenge and that we have the ability to do so.
In terms of the match itself, it was very much a game of 2 halves, the first half would see Cairo heading into the break 1-0 and maybe some doubts and questions being asked of Montreal.
“Are they just here to make up numbers?”
“What about this rebuild?”
“Are they just draw merchants?”
Well the manager had some choice words to say at half time and it was like a different team came out that changing room and in the 49th minute of the game, when Bergman played that ball to me I had 1 thing on my mind… get the byline and hit it right into the 6 yard box and none other than Wang Zhao was waiting to receive it and slot it home.
Game on!

And we kicked on from there, a very confident team appeared after this, one that wasn't going to be shoved aside and wasn't afraid to pass it around. The pressure was too much for the young lad Duic who would accidentally slice it into his own next in the 58th minute, and continued pressure and wearing down of the Cairo City team would see us bagging a 3rd in added time in the 95th minute with Camelot Darugius putting that one in the net
.
Now I knew I felt good about myself coming off the park but to be pulled aside and told that I was Man Of The Match is really just the validation you need after a statement game like that, it gives you that extra drive to push harder. It's exactly the kind of result we needed to head into an extremely tough game against Rova, which if we get some points in that game… look out Division 2!
