What it means to be a professional
#1
Professional athletes don’t really have it tough. Or so, that’s what the common person on the street would like for you to think. While the Bob’s and the Barb’s from down the lane are loading up in their wagons every morning to head into the office, professional athletes are likely still in bed. Well, that is, if they aren’t on the road traveling between major cities where they play their games. Or, if they weren’t already up for a few hours getting in incredibly important training between matches and practices. Or perhaps, there were some injuries that have plagued the athlete during the grueling and long stretches of a professional sporting series; so in that case, the pro is in with the clinical and training staff making sure to get in treatment to de-risk the possibility of missing any time helping their team try to win.

I suppose we haven’t dispelled any rumors then that being a professional athlete can be hard.

It wasn’t just a few days ago that it felt like Dwayne Pruney, of the SSL’s Reykjavik, felt like he was just a fraction of a second from ending up in the regular old professional workforce instead of living out his dreams playing on the pitch with his pals. As he continues to reflect on how lucky and blessed he is to be a part of such a wonderful brother/sister-hood that is professional athletes.

Pruney certainly doesn’t want to give up this dream anytime soon. And so, he’ll continue to work harder than those Bob and Barb characters do as they type away on their computers to ensure he keeps the dream alive.
