After seeing us score one in our Friendly match yesterday in Kaapstad, I got a bit curious about another stat. I decided this time to look into last season and see how many penalty kicks were taken and scored to see if we're really capitalizing on these calls.
In Majors 1, there were 12 penalty shots taken, with 5 goals, for 42%
In Majors 2, there were 11 penalty shots taken, with 8 goals scored, for a 73% rate.
In Minors 1, there were 9 penalty shots taken, with 5 successful shots, for 55%
In Minors 2, there were 6 penalty shots taken, 5 goals scored, for 83%
Overall, we scored 61% of the penalty kicks we've taken collectively in our leagues, not too shabby!
That being said, the number was down from the season before, Season 25, where 76% of penalty kicks were completed. Surprisingly, both seasons that I looked at had the same number of shots, 38 in total. Not sure that means anything, but it's interesting.
I also find it kind of interesting that, at each level, the number of penalties increases. I won't question it too much, I've already done my article about yellow and red cards. I guess the competition must be bringing it out of everyone.
