Possession.
Being suddenly taken over.
Your body going numb, senses crying out yet being unable to respond.
Trapped within your own mind, a prisoner within a mortal coil built from flesh and blood eternally trapped until bloodied broken bodies bearing brutish strength rain down upon yee and crush you unto ash and dust!
Dante closed the book shut loudly and shook his head. "Reading takes so long ... I should get Joshua (@o1playz) to do it for me next time." He muttered to himself while standing upwards, the rather uncomfortable wooden chair he had been sitting on getting pushed back in the process. This bye week was dragging on for much longer then Dante had initially realized--- long enough that he'd gotten bored of playing video games and avoiding doing things ... that he ended up actually wanting to do something. At first it was soccer, but the coaches yelled at him for not giving his body break. Then it was exploring good ol' Cape Town, but Dante of course couldn't have that either ... as he would get bombarded by girls left and right. While Dante didn't mind the attention from the ladies, he found it quite overwhelming to deal with and just decided it wasn't worth all the trouble. Which is how Dante came to visit this small library on the outskirts of town.
Out of some mixture of sheer curiosity and immense boredom, Dante found himself wandering through the may aisles tracing a hand along the many titles before he found himself by a mix of sports fiction and non-fiction. One could tell immediately that this particular shelf hadn't been looked at too closely in awhile, with misplaced books strewn about haphazardly in the wrong spots. There were some rather fascinating titles to glance at however ... such as "Cooking with the Rashford's" or "How to Train your Genius Striker: A Limited Esquire Guide to the In's and Out's of ..." The second book sounded pretty stupid, but then again people will publish anything these days. As he slowly walked Dante's mind wandered, thinking of the coming battles ahead of him ... and he found himself getting more and more fired up at the fact that he could soon show off his skills to the world! Scanning for anything which caught his eye, Dante found ... nothing of use. He was here to learn, but what was he even supposed to learn from this place? The minutes ticked by, each one feeling as if they'd been stretched out into an hour to Dante's bored mind. He leaned against a shelf and sighed deeply before slumping to the ground. His head hung down as he finally paid attention to the real reason he was here. To get away from everything. To shed the disappointment he felt last season and the lingering regret at not being able to carry his team forwards. He had all this talent but he somehow still failed to put up the results he desired. Wanting it was no longer enough ... he hadn't felt this frustrated about something in a long time ...
He hadn't felt anything this strongly in a long time, and all he could think about was how to be ... different ... to be ... better.
End of Season.
Things rarely go as we truly want them to.
Dante had just finished the final game of the season, helping Kaapstad finish of a strong stretch of performances of which he scored three goals in two matches ... but by all metrics this season ... was a colossal failure.
It may have only been the second season of his young career, but Kaapstad as a whole ... Dante himself ... they were supposed to take a step forward, weren't they? Even if they didn't win the league, Dante had less assists then he did last season AND only notched two more goals then he did the season before. The ONLY caveat was that he had done so in three less games ... but that didn't matter to the Wolfe. He just wanted to score goals, he wanted to bring his team victory with every point he earned, but he had let himself and the team down. All the talent in the world, yet unable to scratch the surface of utilizing it. With the seasons now shortened by an absurd three games, his long term goal of becoming one of the most prolific goal scorers in history felt like it was wilting away in front of his eyes. It had been the one thing motivating him, but now ...?
Dante glanced around the locker room and studied his teammates. Three 1-1 draws in a row which they had to fight quite hard for, followed by two nice wins to finish up the season. The young Striker wasn't one for useless emotions or anything, but taking a moment to reflect on his season and acknowledging that neither his team nor Dante himself had played good enough was certainly disheartening. The look on his face said something was wrong despite the fact that his team had won and they had scored a goal. Everybody else was celebrating the victory they had just sweated and grinded out over a long 90 minutes, but not the Wolfe. Instead a towel hung over his head as he stood up and turned to leave without a word to his friends and teammates. He might be quite tame from an outside perspective, and eccentric in how he acts at times ... but anybody who caught a glimpse of his face at that moment could tell there was only a grim look at is Kaapstad had just lost the match ... and maybe their Star Striker.
Dante Von Wolfe had been eligible for a contract extension all season. His agent and the Kaapstad brass worked things out nicely and Dante expected to have his contract officially offered and be able to sign it within the first month of the season. He was patient and continued to play fairly well, but the contract situation certainly loomed over the Wolfe as he reflected on the lack of success. They hadn't reached out to him other then when he made his demands, hadn't mentioned contracts since then, and now he wasn't sure they even wanted him back. Was the Wolfe of Kaapstad going to need to ... move elsewhere?
Just 7 days prior to free agency Kaapstad officially submitted a contract offer to the Wolfe and the media was all over it.
It was like the entire league had just forgotten that Dante Von Wolfe had only just completed his second league season, as if they had forgotten that he wasn't actually under contract. People seemed to also think that he would accept right away, and that Hollywood would lock up it's Striker of the future ... but everything wasn't normal. Dante wasn't at the training facilities, he avoided his coaches and teammates, and didn't respond to messages from any of the front office brass asking him to sign the contract or whether the conditions were satisfactory. Instead he sent a single emoji in response to the link to the contract that one of the Managers sent him. A cat close up to the camera looking dazed and out of it, called :CatStare: which summed up how he felt pretty well ... mostly because, he didn't know how to feel about all this ... should he resign where he was comfortable, with people he knew, or chase goals with another team ...?
Should I stay or should I go?
Hello hello hello everyone, it's your friendly neighbourhood Canadian here to provide you with a small update ... and announce my return from the media hiatus since the SSL seems to quite enjoy these, based on the fact that an article of mine has never been under 100 views lol. I see you all, and I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sticking around! The past month has been rough, and I was facing writers block and felt like I'd lost that creative spark ... I think I was a bit burned out, but I do feel better now! You can expect an article to drop every week or two (roughly). I legit have arcs in mind for this series, each with an overarching theme unrelated to soccer ... next MIGHT need to be love ... so I got plans! T[i]hanks for hanging around and reading, your support makes this fun for me. Take care! <3
