Things I wish I knew as a manager pt 3
#1
Now I come onto the topic of trying to keep your team active. Its one of the biggest things that stress's you between games

Now the biggest thing about this is that when you're the manager of the team you also get power (or should be getting power) over the entire locker room server of the team. Early on when I was a manager all by myself I didn't realy do much to expand or refine the list of rooms in the discord. That all changed when Nhamlet came on as assistant manager. After he came on one of the first things he did was build out a lot of the normal rooms and organized the entire server to act as what you need for an LR.

I put that there because as a manager I think that your LR is the most important part of keeping people active and updating. in a leauge where each team would be extremly lucky to have 11 actives its never going to be the kind of hopping place a LR from the ISFL or I assume SHL is like. You've really got to build the spaces for people to post and then post a lot in them to make it something people keep looking at.

Pings are the most dangerous part of trying to keep people active. You've really got to employ them in a perfect balance of having a very good reason to do it and to not do it too much. At the same time however I think you really need to ping people in order to get them to update. One of the things I think was the most successful thing was to ping people and talk about their builds. Being available to talk to them, and pinging when you are available, can go a long way to get them to keep updating and following the plan you talk about.

Remember each player is really different and may not follow all or any of these things. Serving the players the best you can and hoping you get lucky on these things is really sometimes the best you can do.

Great article, as a first time manager I've been trying to incorporate this too. As someone whose been gm'd by Ham in another Sim League, I definitely have tried taking inspiration from him and our LR.
