At this point of the season, I figure it is a good time to look into how Nicolás Inclán's season is going. After a very slow start, including losses in their first two matches, Sao Paulo really needed to turn things around. After a 1-1 draw with Montreal, the squad had a huge matchup the the First Round of their Cup matchup with Sydney City. Unfortunately for the squad, they lost this match and they would go on to lose Leg 2, which meant they crashed out of that competition. I have heard that this can sometimes help a team focus more on its primary objective, which for Sao Paulo is to achieve promotion into the first division. Maybe this helped, as Sao Paulo has won each of its next three matches, winning 1-0 against Inter London, winning again 1-0 against Buenos Aires, and lastly defeating FC Kaapstad by a score of 2-1. In each of these wins, Nico had run 10.5 km or more, topping out at 10.9 km in his last 2 matches. He achieved his highest rating of 6.92 in the game, as he completed 53 of 54 passes, and was successful on 9 of 11 headers including 5 key headers. Though he only had one successful tackle, he had 3 interceptions and 11 clearances. I did not watch the game, so I am unable to see just how much he contributed to the victory, but I can hope that he helped seal the game with one of those clearances. In the 2-1 victory over FC Kaapstad he completed 100 percent of his passes, going 63 for 63. He also was successful on 12 of 13 headers. I think that is a good sign of him playing quality defense that he is very involved and has helped out with even 1 key header in the match. We shall see if he and the team can keep up the good work and continue their good run of form.
