As we are nearing the first match of the S15 season in the SSL, the whole town of Honfleur, in the Normandie region of France, has their eyes glued to their TV (or whichever screen they are watching football on), and their thoughts turned towards Stockholm, all the way up in distant Sweden. After stealing the Eurovision song contest from their obviously more deserving neighbors of Finland about a year ago, Sweden has a chance to redeem themselves, at least in the hearts of the Honfleurais and Honfleuraises: one of their own is going to be spending the season there, playing for the Stockholm Idrottsklubb team in the SSL academy.
Bérangère-Amandine Bruère-Estrangin, a prospect for the S16 SSL draft, is one of six additions that the club is making so far this season, alongside German player Devon Wagner, three Irishmen (Evan Hunt and two strikers, Sterling Scott and Eric Belmont) as well as Sweden’s own Freja Ekholm-Gunnarsson. Bruère-Estrangin and Ekholm-Gunnarsson also both play the same position of CD, so it’s going to be interesting to see how the team decides to use them. They might end up rotating them between CD and an alternative position, or otherwise would have to have one of the two try to fully convert to another position, for a time. Both are sound defensive players, so in either case the two talented young women should be able to make it work,
