Australia is hardly a soccer powerhouse, and never has been, but with Sydney FC, it does encourage some talent. The latest of these young talents is Daryl McManus out of Brisbane. Daryl rocks the new Australian youth look of forgetting what sunscreen is and having a mullet, sure to make sure no one forgets where he’s from.
On the field, though, Daryl’s youthful look is easily forgotten for his more mature play. One might expect him to be a flashy striker, hunting for goals and glory, but he’s actually a patient, pass-first midfielder. In interviews, or the public eye, he may exude bravado, but his real skill and talent comes down to an artists mind with the ball at his feet, and an ever increasing ability to see the whole field. He just need to keep the improvement going, and Daryl will have a real shot.
The young man certainly has far to go, but with the right attitude, he should end up as an iconic playmaker, a maestro of football. The question is, where will he end up, and will he find what he needs there? The world will have to wait to see if Dayl McManus is Australia’s first true footballing superstar, but not too much longer.
