After a successful week 1, Beermann and his Montreal teammates made their way into a very busy week. Three games in the span of 7 days starting with a long flight over to Egypt to play against Cairo in the Minor Leagues before going to Japan to face off against Tokyo in the Cup and after that a trip back to Montreal to face North Shore at home.
On a team level it was yet another week of strong performances. Away at Cairo City, Montreal managed to get a 4-2 victory, Erik having had a rather quiet game in Egypt. Only managing to connect with 3 tackles and a pass completion rate of 85%. A win is a win though and the Montreal Captain couldn’t have been happier about the way his team managed to beat Cairo, pushing themselves up to the top of the league at least momentarily.
With little time to process that game it was already time to get on the field again. Tokyo was waiting in the SSL Cup. A game where everyone would have predicted the Major League team to be clear favorites. Beermann and his crew managed to surprise everyone though by giving them a run for their money and ending the game in a 3-3 draw. A result that keeps Montreal’s hopes alive to maybe even get out of their group. For Erik himself it was a similar game to the one against Cairo, performing slightly better than before even with his 2nd yellow card of the season. After the long trip home Beermann finally had the chance to rest for a little bit, the coach granting the team a day off right after those long flights and hard-fought games. With everyone’s energy restored and their will to fight for a title this year reignited they were met with a bit of a downer in their game against North Shore United.
At half-time all looked good, Montreal leading with 3-1 and maybe Erik should have been the one to remind the team that it wasn’t yet over and that they had to stay concentraded. Something he lacked himself in the first half, giving up the one Penalty Kick that led to North Shore’s only goal in the first 45 minutes. The second half turned it all upside-down. United only needed good 5 minutes to score the 3-2 before Montreal, again only 5 minutes later, restored the 2-goal lead with the 4-2. In the last minutes of the game North Shore managed to both get the 4-3 and the 4-4, giving the Montreal boys a sour taste about this draw even though anyone likely would have taken this result going into the game considering North Shore usually is a team that is contesting for the top spots in the league.
