GRADED: Matchday 7 - Stockholm vs. Atletico Review
#1
Stockholm IK vs. Atletico

Matchday 7 brought us an absolutely incredible slate of matchups, and SIK vs. Atletico was no different.  With the table finally starting to settle as we near the halfway point of the Academy season, we see an SIK club who started out hot, but has faltered recently. Tumbling down from first in the table to a middle 4 position taking on an Atletico Medellin squad still looking to climb out of a bottom 2 spot.

SIK comes out of the gates with several shots on goal and a corner merely 30 seconds into the game! As we near the 4 minute mark, the pressure from Stockholm continues to mount, until Delvecchio takes a pass from Criminal and speeds away to score a relatively uncontested goal from the right side of the box, putting SIK up 1-0 early on. That’s Delvecchio’s 3rd goal of the Academy season and he’s gotten hotter as the season has waned on.

A flurry of attempts on goal from Stockholm continue into the 6th minute, but Atletico is able to keep them at bay for a bit more. After what feels like an entirety in game time, we see the action pick back up in the 13th minute with Medellin finally getting a shot on goal, which leads to a corner for them. Some stout defense by SIK shuts that down with ease. Delvecchio takes a crosser into the box and nearly notches goal #2 in the 15th minute.

SIK finally makes the pressure pay off with a goal in the 19th minute scored by the Striker Jorgensen on a beautiful pass from Delvecchio, who continues to shine in this game. It’s now 2-0 SIK at around the halfway point of the 1st half. Stockholm is undeniable this match. 3 minutes later, Slakteris hits an absolute strike from just outside the box to make it 3-0 SIK. The offensive pressure being put on Medellin right now is incredible to watch.

As we near the 30 minute mark, Atletico has a near miss off a beautifully played throw-in, but mere minutes later Zoldyck gets loose behind the defense and scores a brilliant goal to cut the SIK leads to 3-1 as we near the end of the first half. The goal is reviewed by our lovely VAR assistant and they are ruled onside, the goal is good!

Some beautiful passing in the 43rd minute also leads to another almost goal for SIK, but it is narrowly blocked by a Medellin defender at the last second. As we hit halftime, it has been complete domination by Stockholm today, and the 3-1 lead absolutely shows it. Looking at some of the metrics so far, and the most telling one at that, is that SIK has attempted 20 shots on goal to Atletico’s 7. Just an incredible offensive performance put on the attacking unit of SIK.

SIK has another near miss in the 50th minute which leads to an easily saved corner by the keeper. An errant pass by Jimstead leads to some beautiful counterattacks from Medellin, but it doesn’t lead to a goal. The game remains a 3-1 contest in the 55th minute.

SIK has a quick strike moment due to the speed of Delvecchio and Jorgenson, but the cross lands on the side of the net and out of danger.

88th minute: Zoldyck has a great run after a move on the defender, but is turned away by Kawasaki! A beautiful cross by Delvecchio leads to a great chance, but the Medellin goalkeeper is able to snag it out of the air!

That is the match! After a dominant first half, SIK is able to rest on their laurels in the 2nd half and hold on for a much needed 3-1 win over Atletico! Delvecchio is easily the man of the match with a 9.6 rating, showing their prowess in both finishing and in the passing game!
