Interview with Michael Schumacher, center-back for Stockholm IK, after the 2-0 win against Victoria Falls

Journalist: Michael, congratulations on both the win and your two goals! Both came from headers off corners. Can you tell us a bit about how you saw the match?

Michael Schumacher: Thank you so much! It feels really good, both for the team and for me personally. It's always nice to contribute with goals, especially as a center-back. The corners were perfectly taken by Delvecchio, and I just saw my chance to get up and win the headers. The first goal came early in the match, and it gave us a good boost. The second goal came when we were already ahead, and it almost felt like sealing the match and securing the three points. I can't emphasize enough how important those corners were for us.

Journalist: Truly impressive performances from you. And Delvecchio, as you mentioned, had two fantastic corners. How important is it to have a player like him in the team?

Michael Schumacher: Yes, Delvecchio really has an amazing ability to deliver perfect corners. As a center-back, it's so important to have a player who can cross the ball with precision. For us at the back, it’s about knowing where the ball is going to be so that we can position ourselves correctly. When Delvecchio takes corners, we know he has the ability to find us where we want to be. It makes my job a lot easier.

Journalist: You seem to be in really good form right now. How do you see the rest of the season? Do you think you can maintain this level?

Michael Schumacher: I’m definitely optimistic. We have a great group, and the team has fantastic cohesion. We’re constantly working on our game, both defensively and offensively. This win was important, but we need to keep our focus and continue performing at this level. There are many tough matches ahead, and we must be prepared to take each match seriously.

Studio Discussion – Criticism of Ben Kaufmann:

Kate Abdo (Host): Now we’ll talk about Ben Kaufmann and his performances in recent matches. He’s had two weak outings in a row, and in today’s match, he had an
opportunity where he took too long to shoot, giving the defender a chance to intercept the ball. What are your thoughts on his performance?

Zlatan Ibrahimović: It was actually a bit frustrating to watch. I’ve always said that when you have that chance, you need to act quickly. Kaufmann is a good player, but he needs to be more decisive. He had a great opportunity to take the shot, but he hesitated, and the defender had time to do his job. In that situation, you should be like a robot – no doubt, just full speed towards goal and finish. It’s about being confident, and that hesitation cost him and the team.

Kate Abdo: It’s interesting that you mention confidence, Zlatan. Is it more of a mental thing for players like Kaufmann to keep their self-belief high, even during tougher periods?

Zlatan Ibrahimović: Absolutely. As a player, it’s easy to feel like you have to be perfect every time, but it’s about not being afraid to make decisions. He needs to get back to that feeling of being the one who decides the game, without hesitation. For a player at his level, it’s important that he learns to be more clinical in his decisions. He has all the tools, but he needs to use them when it really matters.

Arjen Robben: I agree with Zlatan. It’s also about being quick in your decision-making. I’ve been there myself, when you get a chance and you feel like you have to make the right decision under pressure. But you can’t think too much. In the situation Kaufmann had, where he had the time to shoot but didn’t act quickly enough, it’s about daring to make the decision right away. That was a key chance lost for him, but it’s something he can learn from.

Gonzalo Higuaín: I agree with both of them. It’s also important to consider that sometimes you need to be confident even when the pressure is at its highest. I’ve felt that way myself, where I hesitated and the defender managed to get in the way. But when you’re in a situation like that, you need to make it a habit to just act. This time, he was too slow, and it cost the team. But he has the potential to get better – it’s just about learning to be quicker and more efficient in those decisions.

Kate Abdo: So, we all agree that Kaufmann needs to be quicker and more decisive in situations like this. Do you think he can get back to his best?

Zlatan Ibrahimović: Yes, I absolutely believe he can find his way back. He has the ability, but he just needs to find his confidence again and be that player who doesn’t hesitate when the opportunities come. He’s still young and has a lot to learn, but I think he can come back even stronger.

Arjen Robben: Exactly, and it’s also about support from the team and the coach. When you’re going through a tough period, you need to feel like you’re surrounded by people who believe in you. That can help him get back to his best level.

Gonzalo Higuaín:
Yes, it’s part of being a good player – being able to handle both the good and bad periods. But it’s about learning and always wanting to get better. And I believe Kaufmann has that drive.
