Teams Losing the Most TPE to Regression

We all love regression! -said no one ever

Our old friend regression has reared its ugly head once again this cycle. Every season, players more than 8 seasons old lose some of their hard earned TPE (to line the pockets of HO obviously). This season the whip comes for Season 14 recruits. While one could argue that regression doesn't play favorites and breaks everyone down in due time, it is just as true that not all teams experience regression similarly. For this article, we will look at which teams lost the most TPE to regression.

First, a look at the minor league teams. By logic, these teams will have less impact from regression because a vast majority of the players in this league are the youngest of the bunch. The only reason why these teams even have regressing players is because they are way too old and regressed to be in the major league or the major league team is so full at a position that it becomes a necessity. Here's the list:

Minor league champions FC Kaapstad lost the most to regression (two players). North Shore United was the only other team to have two regressing players, but the impact was muted enough to account for half of the TPE Kaapstad lost. Four of the teams, including both expansion franchises, are set to lose zero TPE to regression. Athenai and Cairo lost the same amount, which is interesting because one started at 1318 TPE and another at 753 TPE. Percentages of deep regression was the result there.

Enough about the minor league, let's look at the top table:

Oh boy, Schwarzwalder. Losing more TPE than #2 and #3 combined, Schwarzwalder had an astonishing 10 players lose TPE to regression. They are destined to take a step back because of this, no? Hollywood, Tokyo, Reykjavik and Buenos Aires are in a second tier of Regression lost, between 1,512 TPE and 1,358 TPE. Interestingly, Tokyo only had 3 players hit regression as opposed to Reykjavik's four or Buenos Aires and Hollywood's five.

Uniao Sao Paulo was the only franchise to escape regression this season, as all of their players are on the younger side. Even the expansion franchises of Tenochititlan and Shanghai couldn't accomplish that!

In total, the major league lost 10,409 TPE to regression and the minor league lost 2,165 TPE. 12,574 TPE is a lot of TPE!

Let me know your thoughts! Will this spell doom for Schwarzwalder? How about Kaapstad? Will they repeat after losing so much TPE? Surely Uniao Sao Paulo is poised for a cup next year with the advantage in skill regression has given them by cutting down the competition!

Cheers
