The Rise of Generative AI
#1
With the rise of Generative AI, a lot of soccer fans are concerned that the soccer world might just go digital. There has already been a noted increase in “simulation leagues” where regular people put in 200 word prompts to receive tokens to buy attributes. Then, these “players” are generated in a digital field, and video is generated of them playing the game of soccer.

One has to wonder whether the humanity of sports is dying, and whether anyone who can write a couple hundred words can simply become the greatest athlete of all time. What about all of the athletes throughout time, whose movements and tactics have been studied and turned into a crude artificial intelligence model to provide cheap entertainment for the masses? One has to wonder whether these players would have wanted their likeness and their accolades to be crushed together in this format. Are we going to lose genuine prospective athletes to this shortcut to stardom, or will it allow young people easier access to professional grade tactical study?

All we know is that regulation, internet safety, and the preservation of genuine human achievement must be on the forefront of all of our minds in these unprecedented times. It is the beauty of the human experience, and of human achievement that inspires us to do our own great acts.
