Hello once more dear reader, Turd Ferguson here to share some quick thoughts on the matchday experience from a total newbie to the league. My first thought on turning on the stream was a bit of confusion – what’s the match order? Which team is represented by which crest? These are things that are immediately apparent to me in the ISFL but not so much here. This added a bit of anticipation to the experience, not knowing when my Eagles would be playing. And what a thrill when I saw us pop up on stream for the second match!
Now on to the match itself – WHAT. A. SHOW. Even without commentary or much fanfare in the discord (shoutout academy grounds), the experience was electric. Coming from a world of colored dots with numbers inside of them, I have to say this was a huge improvement. Watching Turd Ferguson glide down the touchlines, scurrying to and fro with the ball and just generally being majestic was a wild experience. I don’t know if this is just me, but it really felt like I could see my traits (Dribbles Out of Defense, Cuts Inside from Both Wings) shining through in Turd’s playstyle. And of course the match itself was a banger – it ended in a tie, 5-5, with penalties and yellow cards and a whole bunch of goals. I know the action won’t always be so insane, but nonetheless I’m hooked!
All in all this was a great matchday experience – the action was exciting enough that I actually stayed and watched the matches I wasn’t involved in – not something I typically do! And while there was not a ton of fanfare on the discord, I appreciate that we have an academy discussion section where I can shitpost mid-game. I cannot wait to experience my first majors matchday (today I think?) with full commentary, it should be a blast!
