Ocean Side's Rocket's Draft Day
#1
Yesterday afternoon several members of the S24 class players were sitting around waiting to find out where they would be going for their SSL journey. One local player was in a lot of the spotlight. Otto Rocket started to become a name that was making a lot of rumblings. Otto only played in the academy league for the last 2 weeks. He was a late addition to the academy league because of paperwork being filed too early. Otto was upset about that as he was wanting to show what he could do during the full season. Even with the short window, Otto continually said it was something they could no longer control so they couldn't let it change anything about who he was as a player.

Draft day arrived and so many reporters were reaching out to Otto to find out what he was thinking. No one could reach him. As we would come to find out Otto was at the one place that made him relax, out in the ocean catching as many waves as he could. Once he was reachable, He expressed his excitement to join Liffeyside Celtic FC. "Liffeyside completely blindsided me by picking me at 9oa. I had some teams I thought I would go to, but at the end of the day what happened is the best because its the path that has been made." When he was asked how he found out Otto let out a big chuckle "Yeah... I completely forgot what time the draft was going to go. I was out in the middle of the surf and had no clue my phone was ringing. After I saw my sister waving to me, I came in and saw all the missed calls. One call was from a number I didnt know and it was Liffeyside congratulated me and welcoming me."

Even though the draft got by him without realizing we know Otto will be making a name for himself and Ocean side soon enough.

Congrats to Otto for the draft selection! Liffeyside Celtic FC is an org that has been quickly rising up the ranks so they must see something special in the young talent. Its interesting to note the late admission to the academy class as well, it goes to show any future prospects there are many ways you can catch the eye of prospective clubs even if your early days are not purely optimal (and in the grand scheme of things its easy to make up for a slightly delayed start).  In particular I think its great to see a willingness to engage with the media from Otto, that is the sort of talent that can really make a difference over the duration of one's career.

The fact that Otto was enjoying a day at the beach on the draft day also speaks to a valuable asset in the league: the ability to keep an even keel. These sorts of leagues are a marathon not a sprint, and it requires the ability to find moments of zen to stay engaged over the long term. Looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for Otto and all of the great young prospects added to the league this year.
