SSL x CK3 Chapter 4 : "At the turn of the century"
#1
The beginning of the tenth century finally seemed to bring some luck to the elderly Count Billy of Oviedo. After a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, Billy won his first war against Duke Arias of Galicia, which allowed him to annex Pravia in 906. Two years later, in 908, he participated in the holy war of Tarragona against the young Sultan Ablarion of the House of Waffles. He distinguished himself there by defeating the Wali Maymun, one of the Sultanate's greatest generals, at Alpuente in 911. However, he was kidnapped a few months later by the son of the man he had just defeated, Maymun II. As of January 1, 912, he was still being held captive by the Muslims in Ziz, where he was in good health. His eldest son, Martin, is currently fighting to save Duke Charles of Gascony following the collapse of the Kingdom of Aquitaine after the death of King Carloman. He is facing two simultaneous invasions, led by Duke Meta III of Languedoc and Duke Gelduin of Aquitaine.

Count Lukas Delucka Bisonball of Prerov led a somewhat turbulent life. After losing a daughter (Eliska, in 899) and his first grandson (Hostivit, in 900), he eliminated his sworn enemy, Chief Vitislav of Hradec, by having him assassinated by an angry mob in Brno in 904. He then remarried in 910 to Milena of the House of Hevelli. However, at the dawn of 912, his neighbor, the ambitious High Chief Dalibor of Balaton, declared war on him to annex Prerov, and the war did not appear to be going in the Fathandball family's favor.

Lukas of House Papian distinguished himself for his leadership skills. After initially being defeated at Kraków in 895 by the chieftain Krak of Sacz, he managed to defeat him again, despite being outnumbered, at Sacz (896), subsequently capturing the city and ending the war. He later appeared in several major conflicts across Europe. He repelled Hasteinn of Mercia at Lancaster in 898, and then killed Jarl Budli in 899 at Seleyjar. Apart from a defeat against the famous Viking pirate Freddy of the House of Mercury in Corsica in 900, he also defeated the Queen of Denmark Ylva (Darthus) at Vingülmork on behalf of Jarl Dag, then Jarl Kar of Schleswig in 905 before beginning a long defensive war in the Kortan region against the leader Dmitry of Lazydyn, which ended with the victory of the Patriarch of Papian in 911. He is currently on a diplomatic mission for the kingdom of Polabie.

Judicau Giacomino of the Santori family is now known as "the corrupt one." After the death of his nemesis, Sultan Muhammad, from old age, he ceased his attacks on Tunis and succeeded in conquering Annaba (898) and Madidu (899) in quick succession. He then established the Archonate of Sardinia in 903, making him the equivalent of a king. However, Sultan Ablarion of the Waffles family did not appreciate seeing the Berkanid family executed by Giacomino, and the latter could soon become his next target. To make matters worse, the Santori family also still has no heirs, and at 65, time is running out for him.

In 896, the leader Glennallen was defeated by the Khazars. His empire fragmented. However, with the birth of a new son, Erdem, that same year, his eldest son, the bastard Baybars, became the ruler of Aralkizil and, fearing he would not inherit the title, founded his own house, the Baybarsids. When Glennallen was again defeated and deposed by the Khazars in 899, he became steward for his son, where he still resides with the rest of his dynasty. He has recently become infirm

Furious of House Chicken certainly traveled a lot in his life. In 897, he led the largest Viking expedition of the century (6,000 men) to try and conquer Munster, but he was once again repelled by the Irish confederacy and the great chieftain Dunchad. The remainder of his troops, bolstered by numerous mercenaries paid for out of his own pocket, attempted one last incursion into Thomond, where he was ultimately defeated again by Chieftain Cinaed, who captured Chicken. The patriarch of the House escaped from the dungeons of Leinster two weeks later. Heavily in debt, he retired to Scotland for nine years to serve as a priest for the local Vikings. However, he was forced to flee the country after being caught having sex with his host's wife. Exiled in Finland, he launched a Viking expedition against the Duchy of Babruysk (modern-day Bielorussia), which he won in 907. However, misfortune struck his family a few days later when his son, Skulli, died in a landslide. Worse still, he and his neighbors in the Rus' confederation, led by the great chieftain Voislav (Max), were forced to ally against the Khazar attack. Against all odds, they won the war following the death of the horde's leader, killed by his son-in-law and Chicken's own knight, Hakon, during the Battle of Pinsk. At that moment, the Khazar empire collapsed. Chicken secured a final victory at Smolensk in 809, subsequently securing his lands. In 814, his daughter Halla had a son, Tyke, which ensured the Chicken name would endure in history. Now with an army of 4000 men at his service and still in great shape despite being 65 years old, Chief Furious is now finally back in power for good...

Having become a mercenary, Tuathflaith wandered with her men through northern Europe. After attempting a coup against the Danish crown led by the young Queen Ylva (Darthus), which resulted in her defeat at Dithmarschen in 901, she began a life of crime. After swindling a German nobleman in Kassel, she had his husband Aed imprisoned in 903 before torturing him to death. After helping Queen Anastasja of Poland ascend the throne in 907, she served as a diplomatic envoy to Alba for several years.

The great chieftain Voislav quickly had to prove himself a great leader. After suppressing a populist revolt in 895 and facing the first Khazar incursions, he failed, however, to protect Turov from their raids. He quickly redeemed himself by routing two Viking expeditions targeting Polotsk in 87 and 898. In 900, he subdued the chieftain Vainius Kuspinas (Jubka) and knighted him as a marshal after witnessing his commanding skills. In 902, however, he imprisoned the latter after an insult during a banquet. Vainius paid a large sum for his release before going to work for another nobleman of the Russian Confederation. It was in 909 that he distinguished himself alongside Chief Chicken when he succeeded in defeating and killing the Khazar king at Pinsk. He spent the following years calming the region, reclaiming Samogitia for himself in the process.

Azzo's life was much calmer than his father's. Still steward to the Dauphin Adelchis of Provence, the only knowledge we have of him at this time revolves around the fact that he witnessed the suicide of his uncle, Count Bosson of Pavia, and that he was very close to his two sons born during the period, Azzo (897) and Anscario (900).

Duke Meta III, placed on the throne at the age of one, distinguished himself at the age of 12 by negotiating his first alliance with Count Sunyer II of Girona. In 910, he reconquered all the territories lost by his grandfather to the Muslims. However, his successes seem to have angered Sultan Ablarion, who appeared to aim to expel all Christians from Hispania. Now 18 years old, Meta II nevertheless coveted something greater for the rest of his life: the kingdom of Aquitaine.

Ylva of House Darthusian's early life was surrounded by death. Indeed, when she was only a few months old, she ascended the Danish throne following the successive deaths of her grandfather Stellan and her father Dordr. More than fifteen other relatives died of smallpox in the months that followed, but little Ylva was a miracle survivor. Her regents took advantage of her young age, eliminating or exiling some of the surviving family members for their own gain, but they never got rid of her, thanks in particular to the priest Asatru Bjorn, who defended her until she was 14, before dying of a heart attack. She did lose some lands in Sweden in 907 and 909, but Denmark seemed to modernize considerably during this period. Now 17 years old, she will have to find a future husband willing to take her name to perpetuate the family line.

The Kirkpatrick family was torn apart after the death of patriarch Pyro in 898. While Pyro did successfully repel a Viking invasion in 899, he and his brother waged war against each other repeatedly. In 904, the two brothers killed each other in a duel over a matter of honor. It then fell to Flannchad's two-year-old son, Pyro III, to manage all of the family's lands, but he lost a significant portion to Pillib Mag Cerball of Osraige, who deposed him as chieftain in 908. Now only chieftain of Mayo and only eight years old, Pyro III would have to hope to reach adulthood before restoring his family's honor.

Strategista Leontia had her work cut out for her when she succeeded her father. After quelling several peasant revolts, she thwarted an assassination attempt on Emperor Eudokinos in 906, earning her a large sum of gold. Upon the death of her husband, Konstantinos, in 909, she adopted Himerios, a 49-year-old Orthodox priest from Croatia who had recently become infirm. Peace has reigned over her domain ever since. Since her children are from another dynasty, the Dobric line is likely to die out soon.

Upon the death of his father Jubka, Vainius inherited Kernavė. However, he quickly lost these territories to the powerful leader Voislav of Minsk, who nevertheless made him a Marshal. He lost this position just as quickly after insulting his superior during a banquet held in his honor. Exiled, his only son, Ginautas (born in 894), inherited all his titles and served as steward to the powerful leader Voislav. Sixteen years old in 912, he is described as an exceptionally handsome young man.

Upon the death of his father, the renowned Sultan John II of Waffles, his son Ablarion took the reins. Also driven by the spirit of conquest, he continued his father's work as soon as he reached adulthood in 901. He first married a commoner, his childhood friend Guraya, a decision that provoked a reaction from his steward, Abd. Ablarion punished him by burning him at the stake in the public square of Gharb, directly warning everyone around him that he reigned supreme and that no one could question his decisions except Allah. Between 904 and 907, he won no fewer than five wars. Faced with the power of his kingdom, which extended gently along the east coast of Spain, King Carloman called a holy war against him to liberate Turtusah in 908. Enraged after learning of the summary execution of his sister Samira and his brother Al-Majid, he swore to expel all Catholics from the region. Carloman's untimely death in 910 ended the war, but he continued his revenge by reclaiming León and Zaragoza. He now had only two targets left to complete his plans: Oviedo, held by Count Billy, and Barcelona, held by the young Count Meta III. Ablarion had two sons, Ablarion II (907) and John (910).

In 902, Lan Mandragoran became the chief of Menas for his loyal service to a local lord. However, after the death of his wife, Niftyuk, in 903, he descended into alcoholism and subsequently died in 907. His son, Hermann, was driven from his fiefdom upon his father's death and, in turn, began working as a mercenary. From 809, he worked for Chief Yudin, who paid him to protect him from his neighbor, Chief Cala Beihean. After an initial defeat in 910, Hermann won two prestigious victories at Nurgan and Beihean in 911 and was now on the verge of winning the war.

The entire Dian family kept a low profile during this period. Indeed, two of the three brothers, Agathon and Dawalt, were imprisoned by their host immediately after their father's death. They were released in 911. Dawalt was now a caravan master for Jarl Sigtryggir. The youngest, Aaron, was captured by John II in 891 and freed much later, in 909, by his son Ablarion.

Duke Gelduin married the eldest daughter of the King of England, Princess Orburh of Wessex, in 905. After the death of his parents in 908 and 909, he lost part of the southern part of his kingdom to Duke Charles of Gascony. Having survived an assassination attempt in 911 by Arnault "the Saint" of the House of Auvergne, he ended his mourning and took revenge on Duke Charles by capturing him at Chartres. The Kingdom of Aquitaine then disintegrated, and chaos threatened to reign throughout southern France. Duke Gelduin usually had two sons, Gelduin II (906) and Roquefort (911).

Duke Garribald did not make a name for himself during his two-year reign following the death of his father Trickonius in 909. Married to Duchess Amalie of Babenberg, he had a son, Aribo, born in 904.

Aware of her family's situation, Jarl Dordis had married a commoner through her matrilineal line, just like her sister Grima, who had married one of the sons of a Corsican pirate residing in Vecchio. However, neither of them had yet had children, and age was beginning to take its toll on their respective bodies.

Upon his mother's death, Motomichi of the Bun Son family became chancellor to the Emperor of Japan, Arioki. The daimyo of Tsushima was said to have a reputation as an extremely thrifty womanizer. He had two daughters from his legal marriage, Fusako (899) and Moriko (909).
