Port Royal v Sydney FC Match Report
#1
Port Royal FC 4 - 2 Sydney FC
MD#1

Port Royal and Sydney FC decided to serve us up a treat here on Matchday 1 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium with a 6 goal thriller which resulted in a 4-2 win for Port Royal. Here we have our fully detailed match report!

Both teams actually came in to the game mirroring each others formation, both managers opting for the 4-2-3-1 formation so the game very much was just about which set of players brought their A game on the day! The first chance of the game came in only 3 minutes with a shot from B.McGlynn just inside the 18 yard box that was deflected past Duic's left hand post. The next effort came from a nice passage of play down Port Royals right hand side between Unshark and Black, where Black managed to send in a high cross to the backpost for Bryant to win the header but the effort could only come back off the post and Munro's rebound was blocked by Sydneys starman Sei and it went wide of the goal.

Then in the 15th minute came the first moment of brilliance from B.McGlynn, the play started in the center of the pitch with Star Scream sending the ball out to the left for Munro who then passed it onto Gerrard Legend who ran with the ball up the line, whipped in the cross straight to B.McGlynns right foot who absolutely smashed home the volley from 6 yards out which gave Port Royal the lead!

Shortly after Sydney had their first chance with an effort from Snooks Legend just outside the box that fizzed past the goal. Then came a fantastic bit of team play from Port Royal with short crisp passing that started with the goalkeeper and involved all but 2 players on the pitch, the ball ended up being slot through by McGlynn for De Allie legend who came up 1v1 with Duic only for his effort to bounce off the crossbar, a brilliant passage of play that truly deserved a goal. Black shortyl after had a solo run that ended with a left foot shot just sailing over the crossbar.

Sydney then had their next chance with Snooks legend again making their way through the Royals defence and had their effort brilliantly blocked by Unshark and put by for a corner, the resulting corner saw a set piece move from the training ground that ended with a shot from Snooks Legend again having an effort this time from range that was tipped wide by Sterling in nets.
Just before the half time whistle we saw a flurry of efforts from the Royals, first Black had an effort tipped over the bar, Erickson had a shot over the bar and then McGlynn had a long range effort on his weak foot punched away by Duic, who was proving to have a great first half and the reason Sydney made their way into the break trailing by only the one goal.

At HT the Royals completely dominated the stats with 13 shots with 6 on target, 57% of the possession and had an XG of 3.0

The second half is where the game really burst into life and Sydney actually started to bring something to the game. Straight from kickoff the Royals played the ball down to the right hand side to Black, where most of all the Royals chances came from, who had played a low cross in towards McGlynn that made a near side run who either was fouled and missed the ball or dummied it (only he will know) and the ball rolled to Reece Munro who smashed it from the penalty spot, completely unmarked, into bottom corner of the net and Duic had no chance and the Royals were now up 2-0.

Five minutes later and a looping header from Reece Munro made it's way over the top of 3 Sydney players straight to McGlynn's right foot again who volleyed it from bang on the 18 yard line and straight past Duic into the net and the Royals had managed to get themselves a comfortable 3-0 lead, with their star man so far McGlynn getting on the scoresheet twice. Straight from kick off saw the first piece of good team play from Sydney which resulted in a comeback goal for Chris Walker IV wonderfully assisted by Ship. The score was now 3-1 and potentially a boost for Sydney to start playing some football.

Not five minutes later saw a throw in down the right hand side for the Royals, taken by Unshark straight to Sadie Black who decided to make their way into the box easily and rifle it into the top left corner from 12 yards out and just like that the goal and momentum of Sydney was stopped and it was 4-1 in the 60th minute of the game.

Ten minutes later saw a beautiful reverse pass from Sei playing Ship into the box who then crossed it across the 6 yard box and Kaido Legend headered it home to make it 4-2 and cap off a nice spell of pressure from Sydney. That spell of pressure continued for the remaining 20 minutes of the game which saw Sydney completely dominate therest of the game, having several shots on goal stopped by Sterling Legend in the between the sticks and one of them actually beat the keeper only to be denied by the frame of the goal. The Royals then seemed to deal well with that pressure as they game came to a close and ended with a final scoreline of 4-2.

The match sponsors man of the match was none other than Port Royals No.9 Barry McGlynn who picked up 2 goals and had a hand in a few clear cut chances as well his teams 2nd goal. Overall a stunning performance from McGlynn as he helped secure his team a first win in the first game of the season!

Up the Royals!
