Ian Degon was never a football player. Well, I suppose that is not completely true. He did play 6u and 7u for two seasons before quitting. Ian’s interests were in other fields, sports scarcely being one of them. After cycling through sports in Middle School, the drive to compete for a team eventually faded. The only sport Ian had ever truly loved was hockey, where he had played as a goalie. Unfortunately, Florida High Schools are not known for their hockey teams. Unsuspectedly in sophomore year, an urgent goalkeeper position opened for the JV Soccer Team. With a fall of seldom events, Ian decided this would be his re-entry into the world of sports.
He filled the shoes (or should I say gloves), and filled them quite well. The team excelled his rookie year, heading to a first round bye quarterfinal game between the #3 team in the country. With one kick, Ian cost his team the chance to move on. It was devastating, almost enough to quit. He knew that wouldn’t be acceptable, so he grinded during the offseason and steadily climbed his ranks in the state. Eventually, during his senior year, he became a nationally ranked player. As his Senior season came to an end, he got a call from the Academy. This was his start to professional football.
