Accra Adowa Accra finding their shooting boots

After a turgid display last week against Jakarta, which one pundit described as "a match that could have been an email", Accra coach Roy Rivers changed up the tactics to give Adowa more of an attacking edge. While their previous 0 - 0 draw really was one for the purists, last night's game could have been an absolutely goalfest against a cagey Istanbul F.K. side.

Out of the blocks Accra had pace, purpose and confidence, with Player of the Match Che Youz bagging a goal in each half, thanks to wing backs Purves and Chavez throwing in cross after cross, winning endless corners for the away side.

With Albert Flowers enjoying his second clean sheet for Accra, he wasn't tested nearly as much as his opposite number; Istanbul goalie Tony Roberts was fantastic at times as he made a string of saves to keep the deficit low, as Accra enjoyed 19 shots (9 on target) to Istanbul's single effort on goal.

Indeed some fans were incredulous at some of the missed opportunities, but Accra striker Blaise N'Kufo answered the critics: "today we played much better and I'm happy my team was putting me in good spots to score. Hopefully I can show that the faith the coach put in me is worth it by scoring soon."*

And while he had little direct impact, Nick Kasak, playing as Inside Forward off the right wing, was largely pleased with his two performances, even if it puts him on his weaker foot: "Luckily thanks Purves and Chavez, I've been getting a bit more stuck into the attacks, which suits me fine, I feel like for Blaise and me, we've got the link up play in training and its just a matter of time before the goals flow for us."

Elsewhere in the Academy group, Victoria Falls lost 2-1 to the unfancied Jakarta side, Stockholm defeated Port Royal 3-0 and Sydney City took down Atletico Medellin 2-0.

Amazingly this leaves Accra 2nd in the league going against Sydney City on Thursday, and it remains to be seen if they can keep their attacking momentum flowing.
