After 3 matches into the academy's season schedule, Umaq Yupanqui has earned his first career clean sheet. With the Victoria Falls Eagles claiming their first win of the season with a 4-0 thumping of Istanbul FK, it was a sigh of relief for those same Eagles who had lost the opening two matches of the emerging season.
It was also a welcome change of pace for Yupanqui, the Peruvian keeper for the Eagles, who had experienced a rough start to the season. Even after the win on matchday 3, Yupanqui's early results have been underwhelming so far. Out of keepers that have appeared in all 3 games so far this season, Yupanqui currently has the lowest average game rating with a 6.7, and is tied for the lowest sv% with 62.5% of his shots faced being successfully rebuffed.
The win over Istanbul however, where Yupanqui stopped all 5 shots that made it on target, hopefully marks an upward swing for a young keeper only beginning to figure out his game. Working with the staff at Victoria Falls, Yupanqui is hoping that his abilities will continue to grow as he establishes himself with a little more confidence through the academy season.
