Downward Spiral
MD#4 & MD#5
Downward Spiral
MD#4 & MD#5
After a poor 2nd week into the season which saw Port Royal losing 3-0 to Stockholm IK
in MD#2 and picking up another loss in MD#3 against Atletico Medellin
which was another 3-0 scoreline, it has been quite a relatively poor start of the season for the Royals. Usually when things start to kind of hit a downward spiral, morale hits new lows, team mates can start turning against each other as the fans start to get on the back of them from the stands, the fans also then start looking towards the man in charge of the dressing room, the tactics, the players. I haven't got that feeling yet from being present amongst the die hard Royal fans following their team every game, probably down to the fact that whilst results have been poor, the performance has actually been quite good, relatively speaking. The chances have been created it's just that finishing aspect has lacked severely, something you wouldn't have expected after the first game of the season where star man Barry McGlynn picked up a brace out of 4 goals they put past Sydney
. However, if things don't start to pick up, we can maybe start to see a shift in the fans opinions and the locker room cohesion if they continue down this spiral of poor results, because decent performances can only hold so much weight with the fans.
So we turn our sights onto MD#4 and next up was Adowa Accra FC
. No changes made to the starting lineup other than some role alterations for the men in the middle, it was the tried and true 4-2-3-1 formation for the Royals.
- Immediately after kick off saw a stoppage in the game as Adowas key man Che Youz picked up an injury that forced him out of the game early doors and already Accra was forced into making a change to the tactics board since Youz being so prolific in his last time out, would've been a pivotal part of the line up today.
- It did not take long for Accra to shake off that unfortunate start to the game when a long period of possession for the Royals was intercepted and Accra pushed on up the park and the ball fell to Abdoulaye Camavinga Legend who smaashed his shot from 25 yards out off the post and in to the back of net, Degon in goals had absolutely no chance of stopping it! Accra takes the lead 1-0 in the 8th minute of play.
- In the 14th Minute, Purves had an effort on goal blocked by Bryants robust challenge.
- After a significant period of time where play seemed to pretty much stop, no chances for either team came until a corner for Accra that was taken by Chavez met the head of Houde Legend, however the effort went sailing over the bar. At this stage in the game, the 36th minute, Port Royal still haven't managed a single shot. Probably going to be a sign of things to come in this game.
:PRO: - Seemed to be the commentators curse, so to speak, as straight from the corner after a nice slow build up of passing play, the Royals managed to pass their wayy through the high press Accra had set up, the ball eventually fell to Munros feet, who had a great effort on goal with his weaker foot, however Flowers in goal was alert and saved it quite comfortably. At least the Royals now finally had registered a shot on goal

:PRO: - Minutes later another chance for the Royals, as Scream in the middle of the park looked up to see Sadie Black in acres of space down the right hand side, the through ball was played, He then carried the ball towards the by-line, passed it back to Unshark who swing in a high ball to the back post and Bryants header went into the side netting. Signs that Port Royal had maybe started to eventually find their feet in this game picking up some chancesjust before the whistle for HT.
Half Time
Half time sees :pro: ahead in the shots department 4-3 and both teams sitting with 1 effort each on target. :pro: also appears to be having their fair share on the ball with 63% possession, however like the last 2 games, this posssession and shots are not translating well into goals, as they find themselves down 1-00 at the break.
- The 2nd half started just as the 1st half seemed to go, quite quiet in terms of chances until the 60th minute when Purves for Accra steamed down the right hand side, smashed in a driven low cross but it somehow evaded the mishmash of players on the edge of the 6 yard box and Tenderloid Legend cleared the ball out the box.
:PRO: - Immediately this saw a chance for the Royals to counter, as the clearance made its way to McGlynn who made a 20 yard pass to find Goal at the center circle, he carried the ball forward tot he corner of the box, passed it back to Bryant who passed to the center to McGlynn who found himself free 20 yards from goal, Houde Legend for Accra came to screen him more central, this was what McGlynn wanted as he moved the ball on to his favoured right side, got himself a yard of space to hammer the ball towards goal, Albert Flowers with a fantastic dive to his upper right hand side to tip the ball onto the post as the shot was destined for the top corner. McGlynn continues to get closer and closer to adding to his goal tally but just seems to be coming up against keepers that match those efforts with great saves! A follow up effort was squashed by Accra, Still 1-0.
- Nick Kasak had an effort from around 20 yards parried away by the keepers... feet, Corner to Accra. Corner didn't seem to come to much, a follow up cross saw Nick Kasak again with a headed effort this time just over the crossbar.
- A nice passage of play from Accra found Camavinga Legend in the center of the park with too much space and time to pass the ball out right to Ewan Purves, who also was wide open and far too much time on the ball, he carried it forward a few yards to set himself up for a fantastic 20 yard shot that flew past Degon in the net and Accra, against the run of play admittedly, found themself up 2-0
- In the 85th minute a chance came for Blaise N'Kufo after he robbed possession from Scream who was dilly-dallying on the ball, he ran with the ball towards goal however his effort lacked any sort of finishing as it blazed over the bar and that proved to be the final chance of the game as the referee blew his final whistle just 5 minutes later to end the game at 2-0
Another game... another quite alright performance from Port Royal, however as I mentioned before the game today, it's only going to hold so much weight in terms of keep the angry fans at bay, a couple of decvent efforts, however only one really seemed to properly test the Adowa Accra goalkeeper. Performances need to improve more, but more importantly so do the results.

Big game match up tonight as Port Royal :PRO: come up against Victoria Falls Eagles
Definitely a game of two forms as VFE has picked up 2 high-scoring wins in their last two outings, and :PRO: are sitting bottom of the league having lost their last 3 on the bounce. Todays game brings a little of a more special meaning to some of the players in tonights matchup. Barry McGlynn, Reece Munro of :PRO: will be going up against their brother Bruce McAllister of
Who will be getting the bragging rights? Let's find out!
- It didn't take long for our first effort on goal in the game as play down the right hand side from Pena made it's way inside the box to McAllister who brought the ball further in-field towards the center of the box and had his curling shot come crashing off the crossbar! McAllister proving he is here for one thing and that's to show up his brothers on the other team!
:PRO: - The 11th minute brings, retrospectively, the game-defining moment as Ian Degon the Royals GK picked up an injury and had to be replaced. An Untested and Untried substitute Goalkepper was brought in for the Royals.
- An intercepted pass by Joe Mormor just outside his own box saw him run the full length of the pitch with the ball, he was tackled late by Scream, however the ref saw fit to play the advantage, Blanco picked up the ball, played a pass to Kusora however he was offside and his effort sailed over the bar anyway. Slack passing from the Royals here.
:PRO: - A corner that was cleared by VFE saw the ball drop to Sadie Black who squared it to Gerrard Legend who's shot was brilliantly tipped away by Yupanqui for a corner.
:PRO: - McGlynn played a pass to Sadie Black who slotted the ball through to Owen Goal who found himself one-on-one with Yupanqui, his effort again was tipped wide by the VFE Goalkeeper, a clear chance missed by Owen Goal.
- Mormor found himself in the box with the ball and his effort was brilliantly saved by the debutant Port Royal Goalkeeper!
- Alex Pena found himself running down the right hand side with acres of space to careully time and make his pass from the edge of the box into the 6 yard box which Kusora occupied and he rifled his close-range shot into the back of the net! 1-0.
- Minutes later, it seemed like deja vu, Pena down the right hand side, this time he had 2 defenders round him but didn't matter in the slightest as this time he played a high cross in to the box and Nacho Kusora was there to header the ball down into the ground and passed the Royals Goalkeeper and it was 2-0 within minutes.
:PRO: - Gerrard Legend with the throw in to Munro who plays a one-two with Bryant, carries the ball towards the penalty spot and rifles it homepast Yupanqui and Royals have their first goal since MD#1 it's 2-1!
:PRO: - McGlynn had his free kick clip off the wall in front of himand it goes out for a corner, the resulting corner from Sadie Black saw Tenderloin Legend header it into the arms of Yupanqui.
- McAllister then tries to one-up his brother with a free-kick however the result was the same, clipped the wall out for a corner, and the resulting corner was collected by Port Royal Goalkeeper.
- 5 minutes from the first half, Kusora searching for his hat trick has an effort from just outside the box sail over the crossbar. His intentions are made quite clear today!
- Only a few minutes later his intentions came to fruition, Pena again moving down the right hand side to the by-line and cut it across the 6 yard box to Kusora who in the first half has bagged his hat-trick! 3-1 HT.
:PRO: - Owen Goal found himself again through one-on-one with the goalkeeper after a nice through ball from Munro, however the effort again was poor, this time though not even working the goalkeeper.
- McAllister brings the ball up the pitch for the coutner attack, plays a central pass to Muller Legend who clips a nice lobbed-through ball pass to Kusora who half-volleys it home from the edge of the 18 yard box. 4 Goals for him now and absoltely no way back at all for Port Royal. 4-1.
:PRO: - Owen Goal again managed to find himself through on goal after a nice pass from Bryant however the shot was easily collected by Yupanqui. A lot of great passes, runs to get into these positions but can't the final finish.
- Muller Legend in the middle of the park plays a beautiful lobbed through ball to Joe Mormor who finds himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and shows Owen Goal just how to do it by slotting it right past the goalkeeper into the back of the net 5-1!
- 75 minutes played and McAllister brings the ball into the box from the right hand side on his left foot, curls a shot towards the bottom corner past a sea of players in the box, keeper does brilliantly to knock the ball onto the post and the ball rolls along the goalmouth and is cleared away!
- A low cross played through the box, bundles past everyone and comes to Alex Pena who manages to placed it beautifully into the top corner! 6-1!
- Alex Pena picks up the ball in the 85th minute, travels with it well along his territory of the right side of the pitch and places a great low-driven cross all the way to Joe Mormor who was waiting in the 6 yard box for the tap in! It's now 7-1! and things are really not looking great for the future of Port Royal. Even a VAR check couldnt save their blushes.

Kusora with 3 goals and Pena with 3 assists in the first half generally tells you all you need to know about that first half. Poor, poor stuff from Port Royal, shambolic at the back.
4-1.:PRO: - Owen Goal again managed to find himself through on goal after a nice pass from Bryant however the shot was easily collected by Yupanqui. The resulting corner from Bryant saw the ball drop to Black who on the half volley smashed the ball off the crossbar and it just seems like it's constantly same old story for Port Royal!
- 75 minutes played and McAllister brings the ball into the box from the right hand side on his left foot, curls a shot towards the bottom corner past a sea of players in the box, keeper does brilliantly to knock the ball onto the post and the ball rolls along the goalmouth and is cleared away!

Alex Pena with perhaps the greatest single match performance in history, picking up 4 assists and a goal!
Serious questions now have to be asked of the players and manager of Port Royal. An absolutely stinking performance and the fans who travelled to the game today let them hear their anger, diabolical stuff from the players on that pitch trying to reard their fans with their continuous efforts to follow this team this season, 4 games now lost in a row with a shocking performance to boot. Unacceptable.
After the game Piza the head coach for the Royals issued a club statement with a sincere apology to the fans. Will they take it on board? Will the team turn it around? For the fans sake, I personally hope so.
