Port Royal: Was going good til it wasn't. MD10&11

Port Royal FC
MD10 vs Atletico Medellin
MD11 vs Adowa Accra FC
We're now at Week 6 of the SSL Academy season and that brings us Matchday 10 and Matchday 11. We only have 4 Matchdays left over 2.5 weeks and the league is starting to shape up nicely. Port Royal last week were finally able to complete 2 matchdays in a row without losing. beating Stockholm 4-2 and drawing 0-0 with Sydney City.

This week however bring sees them go up against Atletico Medellin and Adowa Accra FC. Previously Port Royal lost 3-0 to Atletico and 2-0 to Adowa Accra so they will be out this week for revenge to show that they have turned around their season and start pushing themselves up the table to salvage a horrific start to the season.

MD10 vs Atletico Medellin

It's Matchday 10 and Port Royal are lining up the exact same way they have the last 2 games with a 4-2-4 formation, clearly they are going for the "it's not broke so don't fix it" approach and continuing the same system that's actually saw them go 2 games without losing.

As usual, it didn't take Port Royal long to have their first chance at goal, in the first minute of the game, after an unusually large number of passes between Erickson and Gerard Legend at the back, the ball came froward to the left hand side to Bryant who played a high cross early into the box and Owen Goal risen above the Atletico Medellin defenders to header the ball towards the goal, however, it was easily saved by Neuer Legend.

Just the four minutes later and Unshark came forward with the ball towards the center of the box and passed it left to the open Bryant who, with all that time and space, was only able to play a weak shot towards the bottom left corner of the goal and Neuer Legend made the diving save to tip the ball wide for a corner.

In the 8th minute of the game, Atletico had their first effort with a corner swung in by Ramirez Legend, then ToastMan Legend headered the ball off the Port Royal defender and the ball went across the face of goal and out for another corner which would allow them to continue to put the pressure on Port Royal, however the resulting corner came to nothing.

In the 12th minute, Reece Munro received a pass from Star Scream, he carried the ball from the left hand side of the box to the center and had an effort at goal from range, however it did sail over the crossbar. Munro managed to find himself in plenty of space as the Medellin players just sat back off him showing a bit of respect to his abilities. If Medellin don't start to close players down then it's only a matter of time before a shot from outside the box will find the net.

Port Royal were starting to get a proper foothold on this game, dominating possession and just passing their way through Atletico Medellin. The Royals were determined to continue their good form lately and extend their unbeaten run, they have came out today with some purpose on the ball!

17 Minutes had passed when Unshark carried the ball down the right hand side, he made a few exchanges with Sadie Black at the corner flag then brought the ball inside more centrally and passed over to Reece Munro who hagain was free on the outside of the box, he had a shot and it was blocked this time however the ball bounced back and sat nicely for him to have a second effort and this time he curled the ball passed the defenders in front of him and passed Neuer Legend in goals and hit the back of the net! It was 1-0 to Port Royal!

Port Royal to this point had 7 shots and 4 on target and it was only a matter of time before the Royals managed to pick up the opening goal.

Then fast forward to the 24th minute and Port Royal had another corner, Bryant played a lovely whipped cross to the front post where Jimothy Erickson headered the ball towards goal and Neuer Legend did well to save the header, unfortunately he could only parry the ball to the feet of Pork Tenderloin Legend and he rifled the half volley into the back of the net and just like that in 25 minutes of play, Port Royal had doubled their lead to 2-0.

Surprisingly though, it seemed as if Port Royal wanted to take their foot off the gas as the next 20 minutes of play proved to be very uneventful and there was hardly any key moments to mention before the referee blew his whistle for Half Time.

Half Time

Port Royal were sitting comfortably in the drivers seat of this match, managing 13 shots with 6 of them hitting the target and picking up, more importantly, 2 goals in the first half to give them a comfortable lead here as we begin the 2nd half.

Then all of a sudden, against the run of play, Isagi Legend came forward with the ball and played a lobbed through ball to Maple Legend who expertly rifled the ball past Degon in goals, but unfortunately for their efforts, the goal was chopped offside as Maple Legend was unable to time his run for the incoming pass. It remained 2-0.

After a slow build up of possession from Port Royal, in the 55th minute Sadie Black came charging down the right hand side and played a high cross from the by-line to Bryant at the back post and his header was easily collected by Neuer Legend in his 6 yard box. Definitely not troubling him with that effort. A minute later McGlynn also had a header at goal tipped wide by Neuer Legend for a corner, however the corner came to nothing.

Atletico Medellin then had a small period of possession with the ball and managed to have 2 shots saved by Degon in the Port Royal goals, space was starting to open up now as the game goes on for Medellin, however some rather weak efforts and the resulting corners just fizzled away to nothing as Port Royal were being very stubborn and not allowing Medellin to crawl their way back into this game.

In the 62nd minute, after calming the storm from Medellin, they managed to get themselves up the park with a corner kick from the right hand side, Bryant swung in a whipped cross, the medellin defenders cleared the ball but only a few yards, it came to Pork Tenderloin Legend who knocked the ball 2 yards to the cnter for Sadie Black who absolutely rifled their shot low towards the goal and it taken a wicked deflection by ToastMan Legend for Medellin and the ball made its way past the goalkeeper into the back of the net. It was very unfortunate for Neuer Legend as he had no clue where the ball was until he was picking it out from the back of his net. Sadie Black ran off to celebrate, own goal or not, this would give Port Royal the comfortable cushion they deserved and the score was now 3-0. A scoreline Port Royal really wanted to help keep up their good form as of late after a poor start to the season.

Bryant, 5 minutes later, was looking to help extend that lead to 4-0, however, was unsuccessful has his shot from the right hand side on his left foot just bounced off the post and the ball was cleared by Medellin, it was a big let off for Medellin and if they aren't careful this match could really get away from them.

10 Minutes later, Sadie Black had a headed effort easily collected by Neuer Legend, and it really seems as though Medellin have totally ran out of steam as Port Royal are easily able to get through to have chances at goal.

That chance would be the last chance of the game as the referee blows the final whistle. Port Royal wins 3-0 enacting the same scoreline that they succumbed to against Atletico the first time around. A great performance by the Royals as they keep their momentum going on an upwards trajectory!

MD11 vs Adowa Accra FC

We're now on MD11 with 4 games left of the season here at the SSL Academy and today we're in for a treat with Port Royal travelling away to face Adowa Accra! The Royals looking to again continue their good form and Accra are looking to pick up their first win in 5 games!

We start off with a chance for Port Royal as Bryant received a pass just inside the box from Munro, passed it back to Gerard Legend who hit it first time from 22 yards, it gets blocked by Maxwell Legend who threw himself in the way of the ball and Bryant followed up with a shot with his weak foot and Flowers in goals saved well and tipped it wide for a corner. From the resulting corner, it eventually came to Gerard Legend at the left side of the box who played a pass through to McGlynn whose shot was blocked over the bar by Houde Legend for another corner. The corner led to nothing.

Then a chance for Adowa Accra as Chavez down the left side played a very high cross to Ofusu at the back post however he could only head the ball wide of the goal.

11th Minute and McGlynn picked up the ball from around 15 yards inside his own half and travelled well with the ball down the left hand side for about 60 yards to the edge of the box and he played a beautiful cross over to Owen Goal and his touch unfortunately take him wide to a tight angle against the goalie and shit shot was easily parried away by Flowers. A good counter attacking run by McGlynn.

Now a real moment of brilliance, Chavez passed the ball to Garcia about 25 yards out, placed it to his right to give himself a yard of space and he smashed it dipping over Degon in goals and into the top right corner! An absolutely sublime strike scoring his first goal for the club. 1-0 to Accra.

10 minutes later in the 23rd minute, Munro picked up the ball in the middle of the park and played a beautiful one-two with Sadie Black that cut a whole through the defence of Accra and his left foot shot saw the ball go into the right hand side of the goal and Port Royal were already level 1-1! A fine move by Port Royal.

Che Youz with the ball 7 minutes later, he passes to Garcia at the edge of the box and he again, rifles a superb strike into the top corner and it's 2-1 to Accra. Absolutely superb individual brilliance from Eden Garcia, not once but twice in this game! Having the game of his life so far!

In the 38th Minute, Bryant had the ball out left, he cut right across the edge of the box to the center where he found a yard of space for a shot, however it was straight into Flowers' arms.

Port Royal had two corners right on the stroke of half time, however both came to nothing and the referee blew his whistle, 2-1 to Adowa Accra.

Half Time

A very close attacking game so far for both teams, just all out attack and Accra have simply just been more clinical in their finishing... well Garcia has been clinical, with two absolute bangers hitting the top right corner of the net. Nothing really Degon could do with both goals, maybe his defence could have shut him down quicker, but sometimes you just have to tip your hat to your opponent.

5 minutes into the 2nd half and Accra came forward with a throw in, Ofusu collected it from Purves in the box and passed along to Nkufo who managed to toe poke the ball into the goals from 6 yards out! 3-1 to Accra!

Then in the 56th minute, Gerard Legend collected the switch ball from Unshark on the other side of the pitch, he ran up to the box with the ball and played a low grass-cutting pass to McGlynn who was standing free at the edge of the 6 yard box and he smashed the shot into the back of the net! It was now 3-2 to Accra and the Royals were hoping to pull this game back!

The game appeared to settle down until the 71st minute when something extraordinary happened, well it would have been extraordinary if not for the first 2 goals he scored. Eden Garcia picked up the ball again 25 yards out at the edge of the box and absolutely leathered a shot passed Degon into the top right corner! 3 Absolutely worldie goals, perhaps the greatest hattrick I have ever witnessed in my life! 4-2 Accra!

For the next 10 minutes Accra had 5 corners and not a single one of them amounted to anything that resembled a shot never mind a shot at target!

Then Port Royal found themselves on the counter attack in the 85th minute, Gerard Legend travelled well with the ball down the left side of the pitch and squared a lovely pass to Barry McGlynn who somehow managed to smash his first time effort well wide of the goal from just 12 yards out, he will be severely disappointed at that effort.

That would appear to be the last exciting piece of play from the game as the referee blew the final whistle in the 93rd minute to bring the game to a conclusion, Adowa Accra running out 4-2 winners over Port Royal and one would perhaps start to think that this is Port Royals season now over as they host the top 3 teams in the league in their last 3 games!

Until next time!
