Had one of those weird weeks where I had a day off mid-week, and then worked Saturday. And much like myself, Kalinins had a strange mid-season move as well, hopping up to the big team, and being thrown directly into a top spot clinching game. He was worried at first that it would be a period of survival to close out the season, but it ended up being a pretty glorious game with a ton of scoring chances, a tight defensive performance, and stable ball movement around the pitch. Exactly the kind of performance one could hope for from a top overall draftee, but definitely not one that anyone expected. With very little time left in the season, there won’t be much time to gather information on his long-term performance, which means he’ll be carrying this inflated appearance throughout the offseason into the next one.
Training in the next few weeks will be focused on getting some of those technical elements up to the Majors standard, especially now that we’re heading to the top division of said majors. That’s where the best of the best play, and so you have to be able to keep up with them in every aspect if you want to survive, and not be trying to promote again the season after.
