Academy Task 5: Mock Draft based on statistics
#1
Wohoo Another Mock Draft! As I have noticed in the Academy chat everyone is always hyped about the next Mock Draft. Because the season is only 1 game away from being over with the title race still ongoing, I decided to make my own and therefore have different priorities about why a player gets drafted at a specific position. This one focuses more on the statistics each player had in their academy season and does not consider Team needs, Team formation, TPE earned, jobs that help with progression or anything else that was not done on the field. Even though the Teams do not really matter for the sake of realism I took the projected draft order through @McLumberjack Draft Manager (https://draft-position-mhcmzmhkxtekqrkaw...amlit.app/) So let’s get right started.

1.      Pick – Schwarzwälder FV          : Nacho Kusora

Nacho Kusora is statistic wise the obvious number 1 Pick. 22 goals in just 13 games is just pure offensive domination and a big reason as to why VFE is 15 goals ahead of everyone else.

2.      Pick – A.C. Romana                  : Joe Mormor

Joe Mormor falls in that same spectrum as Kusora. Supertalent offensively. With 12 goals he is 2nd in goals while also standing on rank 8 with 6 assists. Together with Kusora and Alex Peña, who we will later talk more about, they make up half of the offensive output of VFE

3.      Pick – Schwarzwälder FV          : John McDougal

This Pick might surprise some, but McDougals statistics are awesome. In just 6 games he got 7 goals on 70% efficiency while also getting himself 2 man of the match awards and an assist. McDougals is definitely one to look out for.

4.      Pick – CA Buenos Aires              : Zryachiy “The Headhunter”

Another Pick that probably surprises many people but The Headhunter was just an outstanding goalkeeper when considering the quality of offensive players and lack of great defenders in the league. With 2 clean sheets and just 11 goals against in 7 games he is the Top goalkeeper to get in this draft.

5.      Pick – Shanghai Dragons FC    : Alex Peña

As mentioned earlier Peña as part of that offensive domination of VFE he has to be named at least in the Top 10 stat wise in this Academy Class. A Player you see in the Top 7 in nearly every single stat related to passing or crossing can’t just go unnoticed. Most assists by 4 assists has to speak for itself.

6.      Pick – Xelajú Cósmico FC          : Scorp E. Unshark

Being one of the best all-around fullbacks with 43 won tackles (number 1) and 33 interceptions (number 2) you have to name him because there just is not anyone this defensively great
7.      Pick – Shanghai Dragons FC    : Dante Von Wolfe

He is one of the more obvious picks when just looking at plain stats. 10 goals and 4 assists in 12 games makes him a player you can count on to contribute every game in one way or the other.

8.      Pick – Liffeyside Celtic FC         : Dennis van Huntelrooy

van Huntelrooy had a great start to the season but the longer it went the more his stats evened out. If he can come back to his pace of at least 1 goal per game as he was on in his first 6 games then he is world class. But you definitely have to wonder what has caused this sudden drop to just 2 goals in 7 games and if he will have these drops in the minor league too.

9.      Pick – Reykjavik United              : Arsene Cardinet

Similar to van Huntelrooy, Cardinet has stretches where just can’t seem to get anything going, while on other nights he will give you 3 goal participations. But luckily, he does not just have this coinflip and instead also plays good football when he is not the one directly contributing to the goal.

10.  Pick – União São Paulo               : Isaiah Ali

This Pick is probably the most controversial (I am not even sure he is eligible to be drafted) because Ali played just 3 games so far. But in those games he was otherworldly. Scoring 2 goals and getting 3 assists he is one of the best per 90 minutes stats players. We can only imagine what he could have done when playing all 14 games, but he did make a good impression in the 3 he played.

11.  Pick – Hollywood FC                    : Martin Krpan

Is it Virgil van Dijk? No it is Martin Krpan. A defensive monster. If you go in a header duel with him you already lost. Want to get the long ball? Already swatted away. Getting past Krpan is one of the hardest things to do. He is a big part of the reason why Stockholm is one of the teams with lesser goals conceded.

12.  Pick – Hollywood FC                    : Don Banjo

Even though Banjo is not the most offensive orientated player he is a beast on defense Top 10 in every defensive stat for example, interceptions 4th, tackles won 9th or clearances 4th. If you already have a great offense Don Banjo is a great addition to keep that defense together.

You may value different stats differently but that is how I saw it (I value defense higher probably than the average person). I would like some feedback what you would have done differtently or if there were some players you were surprised to see or not see. I was surprised neither of the Top 3 TPE earned players were statistically great but Academy stats do not really tell the whole story.
