As I sit here and start to write the first PT I've written in this league in...literal years, I think it's fitting that I am using said PT to reflect on those years and particularly the people who have made those years worth sticking around. I've been very clear about the fact that all of my soccer knowledge comes from some youth participation (as a defender whose only job was to boot the ball real hard because I didn't have much in the way of skill but I did have a leg) and some dabbling every four years around the world cup. So my involvement here has been, even more so than my time in the SHL, only about the people from day one.
I have been clear here and elsewhere about how my involvement in sim leagues is shifting; I'm stepping back from all of the "extra" work I've been putting in, and I'm just going to take some time to enjoy this league in particular as a player, to sit back and watch No-Face and crew work their magic on the squad we have built together. But I wanted to take a minute to say thank you to everyone who has made my over-investment here such a joy over the past few years. I am not going to shout out everyone by name, because that would take too long and honestly I'm already over the word count here, but there are a couple of people and a few groups of people I want to make sure I thank.
First of all, this league owes every nice thing it has to Canadice, and his absolutely insane level of commitment in keeping this league afloat through the earliest stages and the hardest times. This man has kept the lights on here through the days of people actively trying to sabotage the league out of spite, through deranged hacker attacks, and most of all, through the times when he was the one doing like, 90% of the work in the entire league. I have given him a hard time at points, mostly when I was having my own hard time over other things, and I can't thank him enough for putting up with me and for the fun thing he's created here.
I want to thank Rashford, for being someone I could always trust to give me honest opinions even though we've been competing managers for the majority of the time we've been here. I want to thank Trips and Frith for stepping up and helping me when I needed it most, Metafiction for being the even-keeled steadying presence that he has always been in Tokyo (and for taking the bullet of a pretty daunting OM seat when I was too scared to after Nhamlet stepped down, and No-Face, Wiggo, and the whole current war room for revitalizing the team and leaving me with nothing but certainty that the team is in the best of hands going forward. Not every draft pick I've ever made in these leagues as a manager has panned out, but we sure killed it in S23.
And finally I want to thank almost everybody I've ever managed with. Even if you've tried to mutiny me in another league, even if you've told me to fuck off, even if you've been a weird misogynist at me...okay no, we'll leave out the misogynists, but the rest of y'all, you've been such a fun group to hang around with. I think we've got a pretty healthy little management group here and it has almost always been a joy to work with y'all, even as someone who knows about one percent as much about the sport as you do, you've made me feel welcome and less stupid, and I appreciate you all.
