“Nice save, mate!”

The thick Galarian accent of one Scorbunny echoes on the pitch as the Scorbunny footballing sensation, Allie Bunson, is playing inside of an empty Silk Road. The SSL Minor’s season has just ended with a mixed level of success for Rapid Magyar, the club showing major improvement, but an inconsistent second half and injuries prevented them from truly finding themselves at the top of the league. But, ever passionate about the game, young Bunson isn’t stopping. Though the atmosphere here is far more relaxed with the sea of purple seats around the pitch.

With permission, there are two extra goals set up on opposite sides of the same half of the pitch and small cones are placed to mark new ‘out of bounds’ lines as a large amount of Pokemon are playing on the pitch. There are signs for it, reading “Football with Allie: For Charity" with various corporate sponsors including Energizer, ‘Voda’ partnering with Feraligatrade. With permission from Rapid Magyar, there is a small event to raise some money for the “Pokemon Organization (for) Good,” POG, an organization for helping take care of Pokemon in need. There are three separate games going on in separate thirds of the pitch.

Allie Bunson has her home Rapid Magyar SC kit on with her purple bow in her fur and has been taking time to play on every pitch with every group of Pokemon, though she’s had some help from her friends and family. Her Mum has been playing in another part of her pitch and her father, Ditto, has transformed into Allie to play as well. A young Eevee has a striped hat on her head, playing ‘referee,’ she has the usual heart shaped light fur on her fluffy tail.

Vicky the Eevee.

Her assistant ref on another pitch is a Wooloo going way back with Allie from Postwick. She has a matching hat to the young Eevee and happily goes ‘Baaaaaa’ as some of the young Pokemon are having fun.

Muffin the Wooloo.

Rushing down the side of one pitch is a fast Electrike, bopping the ball with his head before swinging his butt around to knock the ball to another Pokemon.

Zip the Electrike.

At the other goal where Allie is standing is a Sylveon. She uses her colourful ribbons to brush some dirt off her and has an Oshawott next to her. He is small and wags his little tail, giving Sylveon a hug. Adorable little love mons.

Candie the Sylveon and Oshy the Oshawott.

Lounging near the goal is an Umbreon, who is a bit tired after playing for so long. Sitting on top of him is a fluffy Zorua, nudging his fur.

Darkshade the Umbreon and Ruby the Zorua.

Allie chases and grabs the ball as she raises her paw and gives a fist bump to the big orange goalie. With small wings and a big tail, he is large, but a gentle giant.

Noodles the Dragonite.

“You really sure you don’t want to give Football a shout?” She asks Noodles the Dragonite who chuckles and gives a friendly roar.

“Naww, I’m good Allie.” His voice is deep and jolly. “I really like travelling and delivering mail.”

On the other side of the pitch, the sassy Sylveon shouts, cupping her ribbons around her mouth. She teases the Dragonite who gulps.

“You better be lucky I didn't take a ‘shot’ with a Moonblast, I got the type match-up!”

The Oshawott laughs.

“Dear, you also only want to use your ribbons!”

“And what’s the problem with that?”

Allie rolls her eyes and shouts.

“Mate, I know we have some leeway with the rules given we’re all Pokemon, but I am pretty sure that’d be a hand ball!”

“Ribbon ball!”

“Should we get back to the game?”

Allie clears her throat and rolls the ball towards the corner.

“Okay mates, Pink team’s ball, corner.”

She helps get the game going as. . . Meanwhile, there are a few interested onlookers. Up in the press boxes.

Seated so he can watch his team’s star right wing back is a man wearing an athletic shirt and jeans, somewhat casual off the pitch. He’s got a short, slightly spiky haircut with a big smile. Rapid Magyar’s new manager, Vašek Tommy.

Seated next to him is a young frog looking to be in his mid twenties. He’s got a black macron tracksuit with the Shanghai Dragon FC’s logo on it. He’s got a rotund figure. Some people believe him to be a bit of a ‘nepo’ hire, but since joining Shanghai, he’s done good in regards to developing player’s skill-wise. The tactics side of things. . . Safe to say he’s a bit out there, as he describes Tommy.

“And that is why I think a 5-5 formation can be a revolutionary tactic!”

Vašek raises an eyebrow and shrugs his shoulders.

“Slippy, I’m not sure that will work.”

Slippy McFrog. Son of Kermit McFrog. The Major’s manager has a sip of his drink (New Wild Watmel Feraligatrade). He explains.

“Listen, half the team on defense, half on offense, we can be a perfectly balanced team. Well, that or I can try a 9-1 formation-”

“Keep that to the pre-season, please. . .” Tommy shudders. Slippy looks down at the pitch, seeing all the Pokemon playing. The Scorbunny, despite her small size, sticks out as she is running around the pitch, trying to give some of the young Pokemon a chance to play, and encouraging them. This energy is noticed from Slippy.

“That rabbit sure is busy.”

Chuckling, the Magyar manager comments. “The young girl is quite passionate. The season only ended a couple of days ago and she’s already out on the pitch. Sure, she’s going easy on the young ones down there, but she doesn’t know when to stop. No wonder she went to a PokeCenter after a match this season.”

Slippy puts his webbed hand on his chin. A fly zooms around his head and he sticks his tongue out to grab it.

“-Gross.”

He burps and asks Tommy a question.

“And she is a right wing back? I think I saw her be an attacker in Victoria.”

“We changed her position. Figured her speed was good to help with our wingback situation. It’s taken a bit, but she’s improved on the defensive side. One of the best interceptors in all of the SSL this past season. Uses her low sweep a lot too, hehe.”

He chuckles. “She single handedly started a ‘who can get yellow carded’ contest with the team.”

A whistle blows down below as Zip the Electrike dives forward to get the ball from a Riolu. He ends up getting the leg as opposed to the ball, and Vicky the Eevee trots over. She shakes her head.

“Zip, dat was not vewy nice.”

“Zip sorry-”

Zip gently picks Riolu up with his mouth and the fighting type dusts itself off. There is a small belt around Vicky and she uses one paw to pull out-

“Yewwo card.”

A yellow card. Zip barks before pouting as Vicky nudges the ball for a free kick. Allie runs over.

“We got a card over here?”

Zip nods his head.

“Zip tackle Riolu, didn’t go well.”

“Wef’s word is final.” Vicky sticks her tongue out and goes to get ready for the free kick for Riolu’s team. Allie looks at her Electrike friend and smirks.

“Nice one.” She bumps paws with Electrike who snickers before getting back to the game. A Fidough walks up to the Electrike and gives a friendly bark.

“Like Zip’s tackle, Cookie?” He wags his tail as the pure bread dog (See what we did there?) barks and smiles.

On the sidelines, the Umbreon stretches, having done his matches today.

“Didn’t expect a toddler to be given referee duties.”

His Zorua partner jumps off his back and comments.

“Kiddo’s smart, we know this, besides, it’s all for fun.”

“Well, it would be nice if more here valued ‘defense.’”

“It’s mostly kids.” Ruby smirks. “Their formation is a 10-0-0, that can change to a 0-10-0 or 0-0-10 at any moment.”

Darkshade chuckles and kisses the cheek of the Zorua.  “Funny.”

. . .

“I sincerely doubt a 10-0-0 formation would work.” Vašek Tommy scratches his head at Slippy’s latest ‘inspiration’ from the pitch down below.

“That one I was kidding, okay?” Slippy continues to sip his sports drink and looks down at the field. “But I am quite impressed that this Pokemon put all this together.”

“She’s really been a big part of the team. Stig’s been a great captain, but if we could have an assistant captain, I’d consider her. Her energy is infectious around the team. I really think she has what it takes to be a difference maker for us at the minor’s level and hopefully you guys eventually too.”

“Shame then that Tony Delvechio and her are in the same position. I wouldn’t want either one of them on the bench.” Slippy comments. “And Trick is our guy on the left side. He’s really ‘magic’ out there.”

“I suppose there are worse problems to have.”

. . .

“I think we have a problem here-”

The Oshawott scratches his head as he looks to see a ball with a slight tear in it. His scallop had fallen off his belly and the ball landed on it. The Oshawott species is known for keeping them sharp. Oshy gives an embarrassed laugh.

“Sorry, Allie.”

“It’s okay, we got extra balls from the warm up. I’ll grab one and we’ll get back.”

The Oshawott taps his foot as Candie leans down and wags her tail. She grabs a ribbon and covers Oshy’s eyes.

“Guess whoooo?”

Oshy blushes and turns around, hugging the Sylveon-

As Candie comes running down.

“HEY! STAY AWAY FROM MY SIGNIFICANT OTTER, YOU FAKE ME!”

Oshy looks to see Candie running down from the goal in a panic.

“We need an emergency meeting! There is a Candie imposter among us!”

Allie comes running back in a panic.

“Come on, don’t do that. . . ”

Sure enough, the second ‘sylveon’ transforms into its true form. . . Ruby the Zorua. She smirks as Darkshade comes running down.

“Okay, sorry sis, but that was a good one.” He nudges Ruby and Zorua smiles.

“Come on, I’m a dark-type, we need to have a little fun-”

Allie comes back with the ball.

“Hey, what did I-”

She looks at the second ‘Allie’ there and gives a slight glare and sigh.

“Okay, first Ruby, now you. Come on, Dad.”

Transforming back into their true self, Allie’s Dad, ditto, gives a big grin and wiggle.

“Hehe, sorry kiddo. Had to do that too, you know?”

Allie’s mum runs over and picks up the Ditto.

“Always the same with you, even back in Day care. You know, there was that time when Allie was a kid and she-”

“Mum!”

Allie stops her mom and everyone around her laughs as they get back to the game-

. . .

“Hey, what does that fan have? Is it a bunch of smaller Allies?”

The two managers, interested in the future of Bunson, have been looking back at footage on one of their laptops and Slippy had noticed a group of fans in a section holding up Scorbunny plushes with Allie’s signature bow and jersey.

Vašek Tommy zooms in and explains.

“They’re the ‘Bunny section’ a group of fans who sort of rallied behind her since her signing. They all bought the plush of her we started selling. Actually, it’s a huge seller.”

“Huge seller you say. . ?”

Another very Froggy voice is heard as the door swings open. For dramatic effect, the lights of the room are turned off and the frog entering holds up a flashlight, creating shadows on his face. The frog has a suit with the Shanghai Dragon’s emblem sewn in it. The owner of the Shanghai Dragons Football Club,

Kermit McFrog.

“Hey dad.” Slippy waves as the frog turns on the light and waves back to his son.

“What’s up, boss?”

Kermit takes up a seat next to them.

“So, uh, this Allie girl, she makes you guys a lot of money?”

“To hell if I know all the numbers.” Tommy explains. “But I do know she’s become one of our more popular players since coming down. I guess a second overall pick can do that?”

Kertmit looks at his son and explains.

“Uh, Slip, we talked about calling up Petter Lind since we have a Central Defensive hole to fill. . . Something tells me we should call up Allie too.”

“Hold on.”

Vašek stands up, shocked at the possibility of another star defensive player of his being sent up so quickly. Between Lind, losing Lax in expansion, and possibly Allie too, the entire s21 first round would be gone in a snap.

“We’re also in a spot where we’re trying not to get demoted next year with the return of ‘promotion’ and ‘relegation’ and losing Allie too would be too much of a blow for us.”

“I’ll do my best to take care of her.” Slippy tries to soften the possible blow. “People say my tactics are a little out there, but you do know I try to do right by the players. But you are our Minor’s manager. As much as we want some titles at both levels, the goal of the minors is for young players to grow, and veterans who may be on the edge to keep playing and help those youngin’s develop.”

“I don’t doubt that, but. . .” The Magyar manager shakes his head. “We would be gutted if we lose the two biggest players of our defensive line in one season.”

The big boss puts his slimy hand on Tommy’s shoulder and speaks.

“Listen, I have a vision, the fans don’t understand it. . .” Then the businessfrog admits, “Actually now that I think of it, neither do I. . . But it’s ambitious. . . almost amphibious. We need the best players in Shanghai sooner rather than later. We’re in a spot where we may end up in the lower division after this season and I don’t want us to stay down there long. But most importantly. . . If we can get more transfer money from merch sales, then we can bring in some big names and maybe reward our managers at both levels to get some raises ya know?”

The promise of more money.

That always softens the blow a bit. Thinking it through, the Magyar manager looks down at the Scorbunny who has been a fire cracker on and off the pitch (She is a fire-type). It would suck to lose a player like her early. But the potential with her is there. Would it do her well to stay down in the minor’s forever? He thinks and provides some terms to his boss and fellow manager.

“Not this season. I think we need to make sure she’s 100% ready, but she deserves to be in the Majors sooner rather than later. We’ll work on a plan to get her ready. But there is an issue. Between her and Tony, we will double up on right-wing-backs. Delvecchio is solid in his position, so we’ll need to think of something.”

Thinking, Slippy remembers part of their conversation from earlier and clarifies.

“You say she used to be a right attacking midfielder?”

“Yeah, she’s pretty versatile. Told me she’s played everywhere except goalkeeper as a kid. But we also have a good right attacking midfielder in Shanghai now.”

Looking at his dad, he asks.

“Dad, you told me you have some names on your draft board including a few defensive players?”

Kermit McFrog nods his head.

“Indeed.”

He then asks a big question which may be the solution to their problem. . .

“What if can find a spot she can fit in?”

. . .

“Thanks for helping me clean up, mates.”

Allie picks up some pylons (the small circular ones) and places them in a basket. The rest of her Pokemon friends are helping clean up after a fun day of snacks and football. Though admittedly, Candie the Sylveon has spent more time flirting with Oshy than helping.

Quite the princess.

Noodles the Dragonite stretches his wings.

“Do you want a lift home?”

He asks and Allie nods. “Sure thing, mate!”

Before the Pokemon can finish cleaning, a staff member walks up to Allie.

“Allie are you done?”

“About to, just cleaning up.”

She picks up a soccer ball and looks up at the staff member. He then drops a big bombshell.

“Because they want to meet with you.”

She blinks.

“Who?”

“Tommy, and both McFrogs.”

Allie looks back at her friends and there is a small bit of concern on her face. There is a stutter as she asks.

“Why do they need to talk to me?”

The staff member shrugs.

“To hell if I know, but they say it’s career changing. . .

TO BE CONTINUED. . .
