Brand new to the league so lacking a ton of useful context, but have you explored alternate regression or late career caps for Pace/Acceleration and/or Stamina/Natural Fitness?
Something like points invested in pace/acceleration regress at 2x pace (multiplier could be adjusted) has the benefit of longer effective life of points invested in technical/mental skills, while still allowing people to build a physical style player without feeling punished. And generally lowering the average pace/acceleration league wide if that is problematic whether by altered player choice or the effect of steeper regression. It has the drawback of increasing the complexity of regression updates.
Or hard caps on some subset of Stamina/Natural Fitness/Pace/Acceleration at certain points in a players career. For example capping all of these stats at 18 in year 10 (going down to 16 in year 12 and 14 in year 14 - all arbitrary, but you get the idea). You could either refund the points over cap (if spent on pace or acceleration) or just have them be lost if you want to preserve the idea of 'rewarding' early investment balanced between physical/mental/technical attributes (though I guess that could be gamed by redistribution before regression). This way new players still get to see their player a lot, as your career gets deeper in regression you can decide between playing limited minutes if you're trying to finish off a career milestone or starting a fresh new recreate.
Seems more elegant and true to life to me than some of the other options, but still comes at the cost of greater complexity in accounting.
