#2 Rookie Season [Now Open to S15 Players]
#21
Bud-Lite Player Page
Career PT #1

Bud-Lite 'Large Box' McGuirk's rookie season was hardly a success. In fact, perhaps you could go as far as to say it was the exact opposite of a success, at least on an individual level. For most of the season Bud-Lite was one of the 10 worst players in the league on the basis of average match rating. A player originally believed to be a solid passer and playmaker, he managed a meager 12 key passes, 2 assists and no goals on the season. That's not to say it was absolutely abysmal though as his play in general was safe if not spectacular since he did finish with a higher than 90% passing percentage and was a solid defender, finishing in the top 10 in the league in tackles won with 37. So ok, maybe saying the opposite of success is unfair, but certainly for a first round pick you expected the Large Box to be a bit more of a playmaker.

On an individual basis, there is certainly plenty of room for improvement but also plenty of potential for McGuirk to be a force for Inter London. He's shown a strong aptitude with his decision making and defensive prowess and rumor has it from a trusted source that McGuirk is looking to be more of a defensive force in the midfield and create opportunities for takeaways, and hopefully that will also allow him more opportunities to create plays as well.

Aside from his own individual play though, the Inter London team as a whole had a fantastic season during McGuirk's professional debut. The team finished in third place in the regular season standings and was barely edged out once again in the SSL Cup Final. While many players and pundits around the league sneer at Inter London's lack of success in claiming a championship in either the regular season or the cup despite being so close, ask the players in particular at the bottom of the table and I'm sure they'd much prefer to be in Inter's position the past couple seasons. Now with a new manager and a fresh draft class, the future looks bright for Inter London just as Bud-Lite will really be getting his feet under him and coming into his own. He's developed a strong friendship with teammate K Clamence filled with crazy kung fu escapades and ghost hunts, and we've just barely gotten a glimpse of what that is going to translate to on the pitch going forward.

So, you know, maybe the numbers aren't the most beautiful and maybe people aren't rushing out to buy a Large Box jersey anytime soon, but on balance Bud-Lite's rookie season was a success and I'm sure he's more than proud of his team and where he's positioned for the future.

APPROVED

Being selected first overall by the expansion CF Catalunya meant that there were high expectations for the young Icelandic defender. He would be thrust into a system that prioritized high time of possession and a metric ton of ball movement. That technique was the key to the team’s pure dominance of the table and by dominance I mean the sheer will to not take a losing decision. The team garnered the nickname Draw FC because of their ability to walk away with a single point for half of their games this season. Honestly that is a huge achievement but also disappointing knowing they could not finish what they started or gave up the lead late into games. JJ being the team’s cornerstone defender, he saw every minute of the late match collapse. He even was right in the thick of some plays that ended in the opponent scoring. Not a great look if I am being honest.

With the style of the team JJ was not tested often but when he was, oh man were they some serious chances. Being the absolute giant that he is, his height helped rack up some key headers that very well could have saved a few goals especially on free kicks. The tackling numbers were overall lower than similar players at the position so it is hard to say if he was the best defender to come out of his draft class. The one thing that those players can never take away from JJ is his first career goal. This goal was special because it was the very first goal ever scored in CF Catalunya history. Man this goal was an absolute beauty. It was a corner kick versus Athenai. Vins Vins was lined up at the near corner and delivered a textbook cross into the thick of players. A leap by JJ over the defender and a twist of the head and bam! First goal in franchise history! That was probably my favorite moment of the season. Overall, you look at the stats and nothing really jumps out to tell you that JJ is a franchise cornerstone of a player but his presence was felt on the pitch each and every match. That left him with a bit over half a season to prove himself as a rookie in the league. Athenai FC was very quick to reach out to him, and grant him the opportunity to sign with the team in a starting eleven role on his favourite position.

On the attacking right midfield position, Cal Labovitch had a more than decent rookie season. In 12 appearances for the Athenai FC Cal scored 2 goals and gave 2 assists. He covered a total distance of over 170 kilometers during those appearances, running up and down the right wing. With an 85.98% succesfull passing percentage, and a 28.3% succesfull crossing percentage, Cal has some work to do if he wants to increase his point production and help his teammates set up more goals.

The Athenai FC team finished in second place in the competition, 9 points back from the winners Hollywood FC. Despite improving over their season 1 third place finish, the Greek team won't be too happy with this outcome as they had their sights set on winning some silverware this season. They had another shot at succes in the cup, but were eliminated in the semi finals by Hollywood FC on a 0-3 aggregate result over two matches.

Off the pitch, Cal had a succesful rookie season as well, signing sponsor deal with Disney and Adidas, and settling into Athens together with his girlfriend.

Cal Labovitch has already grown significantly as a football player over the course of his rookie season, and we will undoubtedly see more from this young Swiss right winger as he resumes training to be back on the field for his second season in the SImulation Soccer League. For the upcoming seasons, the Athenai FC have their sights set on some silverware, and despite losing their assistant GM and twoof their key players to expansion Cal and the Athênai F.C. management are looking forward to seeing what the rest of his career will bring. First order of business will be to gear up for the SSL Shield, where they will once again face the Hollywood F.C., this time hopefully with a more positive result..

APPROVED

Not long after leaving them for new heights in the new expansion team Sydney City, the team formerly known as Rio FC has rebranded to the new and in his opinion improved Seoul FC. However we are here to talk about his rookie season and not what the future holds. So how was Tim Possible performing during his debut season? Well, he quickly established himself as a pacey left back with the ability to whip in crosses and dribble past his opponents. However due to the team around him, most of his abilities relied on his defending due to Rio's lack of talent. The team finished bottom which means Tim Possible was not able to show the best of his attacking threat. Despite the fact that his team was mostly on the losing end of the score, he still managed to impress scoring himself three assists in his rookie season. Which for a rookie left back? I would say is not too bad, what do you guys think? No mistakes by him led to any goals so that is something that I think Tim Possible can be proud of. Especially considering the fact that, once again I must stress..This was the worst team in the league. He did not manage to score any goals but that did not stop him from getting an average rating of slightly over 6.7. When he asked his agent about his performance and what he could look forward to into the future? His agent was very impressed. Mostly because usually when a defender is playing on a bad team, he will usually suffer in his average rating. That was not the case for Tim Possible though as he looks forward to the future with Sydney City. I have heard that despite his impressive rookie season, Sydney City see Tim Possible more as an attacking threat and are looking forward to exploiting that. Completely changing the positions he will play in the future. Could such a dramatic change from his 1st season impact his abilities? We just have to wait and see

CODE

381 words

APPROVED

IP lead the league in yellow cards, red cards and I believe fouls, and was about 6th in fouls against when playing this past season, it was open season for knees and ankles.

When it came to passing IP managed to end the season with a 91.4% passing percentage which I would say was pretty successful, having about 32 key passes this past season. He needs to work on his crossing as he had attempted 162 crosses but only delivered 36, for a 22.22%, only creating about 5 chances.

IP attempted 130 headers and 92 were successful for a 70.77% header percentage for a total of 2 key headers. Now the next little bit is what we were all waiting for obviously. In 18 games IP attempted 46 tackles, and won 34 having additionally 37 interceptions. See where I am going with this? We are getting to the cards as mentioned before.

In 18 games, IP managed to get 9 yellow cards, 2 reds, 55 fouls and 48 fouls against. The man’s thirst for blood could not be sated this past season, I swear when I became this players agent, I did not think that he would be out for blood in his first season, that was a suprise and now has cemented a legacy in the SSL for IP, it’s his identity.

Unfortunately with all the focus on breaking knees and ankles, there was a lacking in the scoring department as IP only managed to get 2 assists and have xG of 0.19 in 18 games, showing that he really was not a presence on the pitch in the offensive zone.

Overall the season was a decent one for a rookie in the league, and there is a lot of things that he needs to work on going into the next season, and I hope that the cards don’t decrease as he has created an identity for himself and the ankle/knee collector, and struck fear into the hearts of opponents when on the pitch this past season.

APPROVED

He has talked about it before and it was plain for everyone to see. He has mentioned in interviews that he had a very tough time adjusting to so many big changes at once. Before moving to Tokyo, he had barely ever been overseas and knew very little about about world other than what he was experiencing in his own little corner of it. So a move to Tokyo was tough on him. Japanese culture took a lot to get used to and he struggled with the language and with the new habits of being a professional athlete. A lot more was expected from him than he was used to and the competition was a lot harder. The things he had done previously to succeed on the field largely relied on him being familiar with his fellow players and relatively familiar with the opponents so reading the game and finding opportunities became a lot tougher than it had been previously. Combine this with a tough season for Tokyo both on the field and off of it where Patrik never really clicked with the group. Nothing was going his or Tokyo's way and it took something that was supposed to be an exciting and adventurous experience (his rookie season) and turning it into a tainted and agonising experience for the young Swede. It came to the point where Björkås was seriously considering retiring and returning back to Sweden in order to study but with the announcement of the expansion draft and his unprotected status he felt he could get a new opportunity on a blank canvas.

Overall, Björkås' season reflects the season that Tokyo had overall. It was lack luster and nothing really seemed to click. In 15 appearances, most out of any team in the league, Björkås managed to score one goal and did not manage to hit a single assist. Playmaking and defensively responsible play is something that he had always prided himself in but it just didn't go his way in this season. His passing percentage also dropped below 90%, something that bothered him. All in all, it was just one of those malicious circles that just sent him spiralling deeper and deeper into negativity. At this point he would just like to forget it every happened and move on with his career.

APPROVED

It was a match made in heaven on paper as Jarrow perfectly slotted into the left CB position beside Mikko Järvälä. Thankfully it translated from paper to grass as he looked like an ideal fit from day one. Hollywood FC is an offensive juggxrnaught who was looking for some defensive reliable players and Jarrow fitted the mold as being defensively reliable was one of Jarrow's most notable attributes.

By the end of the season Jarrow ranked in the top of many of the defensive categories despite being a rookie. He finished with 60 interceptions which was good for 4th most in the entire league. He also finished with 6 "Key Tackles", only 1 behind the league lead who had 7.

Another important part of the game is headers, another area where Jarrow excelled in. Finishing with the 4th most "successful headers" with 258 which was also good for the 4th best header percentage with 88.05%.

Hollywood FC was looking for consistency and Jarrow never let them down in that regard. His consistency was evident with the 13th best average Match Rating with a 7.23. This was in a large part due to his safe passing as he finished with the 5th best passing percentage in the league at 96.68%.

From a statistical stand-point, Jarrow clearly had a phenomenal rookie season which earned him 2 votes for Rookie of the Year and although he didn't win the award it doesn't diminish his stellar season.

All this talk about personal achievements doesn't even take into account the teams success. His team, Hollywood FC, won BOTH the league title and the SSL Cup in season 2 and did so with relative ease. The first time a team has won both awards in the same season in this young leagues history.

The only downside to such a successful rookie campaign is that it will be hard to top such a great season. That doesn't mean that it won't be fun to try.

Let's go!

[ 362 words ]

APPROVED

He quickly made friends with a lot of the players on the team like Sam Siege and the lady Söderberg. That last one had a lot of sisters and one brother, it was very impressive for GOAT as a single child to see such a big family and how they could all be high end athletes across different sports. The only major sport where they didn’t have a representative from their family was American football, but this is a garbage sport anyways so GOAT and Helena always made fun of that.

Their friendship would also show on the field. During every soccer game, you could see the chemistry between them develop even if they did not play very close positions. All season, Helena would bugger the team managers to move her closer to GOAT (they finally would in GOAT’s second season, to everyone’s happiness).

There was success for the team early on in the season as they won the League Shield, but things did not go all that well after that. GOAT experienced a lot of frustration throughout this rookie season as his team only managed to win three games out of the 14 that they played, and only 3 other games ended in a draw, leaving poor Tokyo in 7th position out of ten clubs with a soul crushing 13 losses and a goal differential of -13 (18 goals for and 31 goals against is really not something you wish for your rookie season).

Overall, GOAT only managed to record one point, a single assist on a teammates goal, along with nine unsuccessful shots. He had a decent passing % of over 90% with 871 passes completed out of 965 tries. He struggled a lot in the crosses department where only one of his eleven attempts at crossing the ball was a success. Still managed a good amount of tackles with success (47 out of 61 attempts) and did not make a single mistake that would lead to a goal for the opponent.

GOAT is going to keep building on that now that his second season is underway and hope to achieve great levels of performance on the field in the near future.

APPROVED

The play on the field itself was also a little disappointing to be honest, despite having 14 key passes from a shoot-first player, there were 0 assists in the stat column by the end of the season. Montreal as a whole really struggled to find offense, often times score lines were low.

Despite the somewhat respectable goal differential of -7, about right for 5th of 8, Montreal scored the least goals of any team with only 14 over the 14 games of the season. Yes that is at least 1 goal per game, but without nearly spotless team play it made it very difficult to win games, especially against teams that could overwhelm us in our own half.

On a brighter note Coffee Biscuit did mange to get a couple player of the match awards, while also being a fairly consistent player throughout the season. 9 goals in a season for a team that only managed 14 in the league itself surely tells you that Coffee was not holding his team back at least.

I think if there is anything to look forward to in the coming season is that Montreal can only really get better offensively, and that should mean more support and more goals for Coffee Biscuit. If he keeps up his growth it will be interesting to see if there is any interest from around the league once his rookie deal is expiring or if the league itself fails to see the potential in the forward.

For now though, the main goal is to aim higher than the bottom half in the standings next season, and to hopefully up the goal totals and xG from their current rates to hopefully lead the league... probably too optimistic, but I think it isn't unreasonable to assume that at some point Biscuit will be the top scorer in the league as long as he keeps improving and gets the support around him to do it.

APPROVED

Rio had a particularly painful season, struggling to post a challenge to any of the league's competitors and finishing at the bottom of the table, which only compounded the poor play the rookie brought to the SSL. Playing from the wingback slot, Mertz would close out his 16 appearances with but a single assist to his name and fashioned no chances for himself. He would be the only player on the roster aside from the keeper and a sub to finish with an xG of 0 on the season. Fortunately, the defensive metrics would shine through as Mertz patched together a decent defensive season from the line. The most notable part of his game was his ability to close down attacking wingers and come away with the ball, posting 49 interceptions during season 2. His play would be poor overall though, placing in the bottom 9 of the league in rating among players with 10 or more appearances, posting a 6.56. However, the defensive metrics do reveal something interesting for the young player. Mertz would look to take the offseason and train as a center back, honing his defensive game and hoping to come into season 3 as an entirely new threat for his team. Retaining the passing skill he developed his whole career but vastly improving his defensive skill set, the former wingback would transition to a ball-playing defender/libero type. Perhaps the biggest thing Mertz accomplished however was his move into the manager role at his club. SSL's unique system does not allow for managers to come from outside the club, rather every team in the league has one or two player managers who run their clubs. In his rookie season, Mertz managed to find himself sitting in the manager seat at his club, a feat he would have never dreamed of upon entering the league. With things looking up for the rookie, he waits with bated breath for what season 3 will bring. I was one word short before this sentence.

APPROVED
