Wearing the orange of the Ivory Coast has always been at the top of Tata's list of accolades. To walk on the footpaths created by the likes of Drogba, Gervinho, Eboue, Fofana, Zokora, Gouamene, Pokou and countless others would be a sacred honor that he would cherish forever. While the Ivorians have only qualified for the World Cup 3 times, they have been champions of Africa twice. It’s a country that hasn’t seen the success it deserves in the eyes of Youre. So, when he got the call from the manager to join the squad, he promised himself he would do everything in his power to bring them that success.

He got the call on a Wednesday after a training session with Inter London. He was feeling his oats a bit as he had just won an 11-v-11 scrimmage against the side with Clamence and Jerry. When he picked up the phone, he knew the number was coming from his home country and at first was concerned. But that concern transformed into elation once the manager introduced himself. Toure was humble and over-thanked the manager for the opportunity. But did have one thought on his mind that he had to get out. The manager asked if Youre had any concerns or questions before he continued his other calls to the lucky players, and Youre answered in the affirmative. Youre asked what any good brother would ask. He wanted to know if his brother made the squad. There was a brief pause on the line, then the manager broke the silence with a laugh. He said he wasn’t sure if he could trust Tolo to keep quiet! Tata let out a scream and teared up. He thanked the manager and called his brother immediately to celebrate this massive moment in their careers!

APPROVED

It was no difference for DeeDee Yoker. when he was a youngster he'd worn out the VHS of highlights of the Scotland World Cup group matches from France 98.
He dreamed of being the next Colin hendry playing against the Roberto Carlos's of the future.
When he saw his name in the extended Scotland senior team he assumed he was just there to make up the numbers, give some opposition to the starting 11 in their practice games and get a bit of networking in.
When he wasnt on the initial list of cuts he assumed there was a mistake. He didn't want to get his hopes up. Him in his early 30s finally called up to the national team. There's no way this could happen... Is there?
When the match squad was posted on the bulletin bulletin board for the friendly against the auld enemy DeeDee had to take 15 minutes to work himself up to check it. And there he was, sitting on the bench for his first ever international game. Against England of all teams.

The day of the game DeeDee couldn't sleep, he'd been up all night sick with worry. Yes it was a friendly but this was his chance, his opportunity to put a stamp on his possible selection for the next European championship.

The feeling of walking out onto the pitch at Hampden was second only to the feeling he felt when he got married, every hair on his body stood in end as he heard the roar of the crowd. The rendition of O flower of Scotland brought a tear to his eyes.
When his name was called to actually get on the pitch he was so eager he forgot to take off the sub bib.

APPROVED

CPT 4
Player Page

It was announced earlier this summer that the Three Lions would be bringing Hall of Fame veteran Matt Le Tissier up into the mix. Most people would see that headline and say, "well, yeah. Of course, they should bring him in. He's Matt Le freakin' Tissier." But after you see the type of season Le Tissier's club, Reykjavik United, had in Season 8, you might actually start scratching your head and wondering what Southgate is thinking (as we all do on a consistent basis). Nevertheless, the English gaffer was impressed with what he saw from the old converted wingback and decided he would be brought up to edge out the useless Kyle Walker and to bring up Alexander-Arnold under his wing for personal coaching.
When Le Tissier was asked how he felt about the call up, he expressed immense gratitude as well as general excitement about getting to represent England on the global stage once more. Even though it isn't "technically" his home country *cue Ted Lasso joke*, Le Tissier knows that there will likely never be a world cup roster from Guersney in his lifetime. So England isn't too bad of a consolation prize.

"Yeah, but man, I have to be honest with you. I was not expecting the call to come to the national team. I assumed I was too old and busted, not even playing in my preferred and natural position at my club. But when [Gareth] gave me a ring to ask if I was interested in representing England, I just didn't know what to say. I just sort of opened my mouth and words fell out. And before I knew it, he was telling me the dates of when practices started and who our upcoming opponents were.
"When I finally got to the practice facility, I felt like I was on another planet entirely. A lot had changed in the almost 30 years since I had been in this facility. The last match I played for England was a hat-trick in a world cup qualifier, but I was never called up to play again. I'm not going to let that happen this time. Gareth promised me time on the pitch this time and I have every intention of playing the full 90."

APPROVED

Coming up through Denmark's youth program, he also knew it to be a possibility but back in Season 4, Andersen finally got the call to come up and play for the Danish national football team in that year's Euro S4 Qualifiers as their starting goalkeeper after the recent retirement of longtime Danish legend Kris Petersen. Petersen had retired as the most capped member of the Danish national team so there were some huge shoes to fill for the young keeper who played in a largely unknown SSL at the time.

From the very beginning, Andersen has proven his place on the team being a stalwart in net and is threatening to challenge Petersen's old record for most capped Danish player if he continues at his pace. Andersen's debut in the Euro qualifiers saw the Danish team qualify first in their group, losing only 1 game and all but 2 games out of the 10 being clean sheets which was impressive. The actual Euro, the team wound up going to the Quarterfinals losing to the Spanish team who went on to win it in the end.

It has been a wonderful time with the national team so far and Andersen has even been able to play with another SSL player in Leif Physt who made his debut around the same time. The Danish team have not won any significant hardware in their time but are ranked as a top 8 country in football right now, the highest ever in the small Scandinavian country's history, large part thanks to the quality goalkeeping from Jannik Andersen. Andersen, even getting older, still plans to play for his country and has hinted at wanting to coach the Danish side when his career is over sparking the next possible move for Andersen but for now, in both his country duties and in the SSL, he has a lot of football still to play in his career.

APPROVED

Across the world, people are well aware of the passion that ignites the French everytime there is a national competition happening. Everyone will wear their jerseys in the street, the chants of "Allez les Bleus" (which, for a quick French lesson, in case you did not know what it mean, is simply "Go Blues", for the simple reason that the color of the French national soccer team is blue) will ring through the street, and during game time everyone will have both of their eyes fixed on the TV, or laptop, or phone screen if it is at all possible. Anything to watch the game. The French people breath soccer and a win or a loss will determine the mood of the whole country.

It is the dream of many a young kid to be one the few people not watching on TV, but instead be right in the action, there on the field, trying to make a whole country proud. It has obviously been the dream of GOAT since he was a little boy watching les Bleus, so when he made it as a professional soccer player, the only thing left was to wait and hope for the call to come. And come it did. For the past several season, GOAT has had the honor to play in that blue shirt and be at the center of a team that had ups and downs, but always had the French people behind it.

He tries to take every opportunity that this special status gives him to encourage the next generation to work hard and never give up on their dreams, so they can themselves defend the honor of the French on the soccer field.

APPROVED

Adam Knight Career PT#4

Adam Knight Player Page

After another successful season with Buenos Aires in which they won the cup, Adam Knight was flying high. He’s been started out with the South American side when they were a D2 team battling for promotion, and over the seasons he’d helped them climb there way up to D1, and this cup victory was hopefully the first in a string of successes as the club started to peak. He didn’t think it could get better than that, until he received the call up to the USA U23 National team. Most players dream of representing their nation from a young age, and Knight was no exception. With tears of joy in his eyes, he happily accepted the offer and began making plans to join the team in training.

Upon joining the squad, he was thrilled to pair up with Sao Paulo defender Matthew Mayhem. A fellow Bostonian, Mayhem is also an absolute stud of a defender, and Knight was looking forward to pairing up with him in the back. The two were able to establish some quick chemistry bonding with tales of their exploits growing up in Beantown. Together, they look to anchor the USA U23 team’s defense. On the opposite side of the field, and their direct opponents in training, the strike tandem of Dogwood Maple and Jeff Newman should provide ample opportunities for Knight to ping in balls from out wide and hopefully rack up a few assists en route to some USA wins. Out here in the heat on the training ground though, Knight is working hard to deny the pair any scoring opportunities and assert himself at training camp.

As the sun sets and the team begins to settle down for the evening, Knight takes one last walk out to the fields and takes the time to reflect on the journey that led him to this moment. How far he has come and how much further he still has to go. The senior team is still the goal, and Buenos Aires are primed for a run at the D1 title. There’s so much more to worry about. But not now. For now, Knight just enjoys the cool evening air for a time before heading back inside and preparing for his next battle

APPROVED

Player Page
Career PT 4

Whenever you’re a kid and playing a sport, there’s usually two main goals: You want to turn pro and you want to represent your country. Normally this is just a dream for some, but the moment you begin playing football in Italy the pressure mounts, especially if you have any talent and it looks like you could play professionally.

Fast forward all these years and I get a phone call to let me know I’d be playing on the Italian National Team. It’s surreal, I froze and didn’t know what to do. I immediately accepted and then called my parents and my brother. Perhaps the even better news was hearing my brother tell me he also got the call, and we’d both be lining up together on the back line representing our country. It’s something special to but on the Azzuri shirt, but putting it on, walking out onto the pitch and turning to my left and seeing my brother beside me made the whole experience that much better.

You look around the stadium and thousands of people have your team’s colors on, some are wearing your jersey and it feels fantastic, but I also feel the pressure of a country on my shoulders that I never could expect. The whistle blows for that first game and it feels as though the stadium goes quiet. Eventually the ball comes to me and I just didn’t want to make a mistake. I took a quick touch, moved the ball up the pitch and then it felt like I finally settled into the game. It wasn’t easy being out there for my first match, but once it concluded it felt good to walk towards the tunnel and see fans cheering for me and wanting pictures and autographs.

When I finally sat down in the locker room, looked around to see all of the players around me and thought about the immense history of all the players who put on this shirt before me. It was a wave of emotion that took over, but one that all I could do was smile. Grabbed my brother and laughed, “we made it”.

APPROVED

A dream is coming true.

There isn't a single soccer player in Germany that doesn't know the importance the national team has for the country. There's undeniably some pride around the team, and whenever the national team is doing badly the general mood in the country drops. As the most important sport by a wide margin, it's a rare occurence for you to meet a German that has no interest in the national team at all.

It's nothing unusal for Karl Schenkinger, the Schwarzwälder FV captain, to get dressed in black and white, or to suit up for a german team. This time, however, it's special.

The jersey he's putting on this time isn't the black-and-white striped shirt he is used to, but a more historic, almost mythical jersey: White shirt, black shorts, black socks, and a black eagle on his chest: It's the German National Team kit Schenkinger is putting on this time.

As the captain of the only german team in the SSL, his call-up was somewhat to be expected, still he can't hide his nervosity when he finally sits in the locker room. How many great players had worn this shirt before him? The legendary Fritz Walter, who led Germany to the first world cup title in 1954, coining it the "Wunder von Bern", an event that was later described as a turning point in German post-war-history. Or "Kaiser" Franz Beckenbauer, who won as a player in 1974 and as a coach in 1990. Miroslav Klose, who is still the leading goalscorer in all worldcups. A jersey like the German one is filled with history - and with a great history come great expectations.

Another deep breath, then it's out on the pitch. Hand placed on the "Bundesadler", it's time to sing along with the anthem for the first time on international TV. A dream come true.

(312 words)

APPROVED
