Tony Roberts has been playing football since he was a child, as with most people from the British Isles. Football isn’t just a sport in this part of the world, it’s a way of life and a route for a would-be blue collar lad to make something of himself. Of course, that was never really a concern for a 10 year old playing with his friends on the local field but it does slowly become a bigger focus as time progresses, along with a players ability and his status within the youth game. Tony had been playing for Newton AFC, an amateur club in the Cymru North, the second tier of the Welsh football league. While he got some valuable exposure to senior football during his time there, it wasn’t really the level that he intended to play at for the rest of his career. With no interest coming down the traditional pathways for a Welsh player, Tony looked towards the SSL, where he would have to prove himself against a higher level of opposition but would hopefully be able to make a career out of it. The first step will be reintegrating into the developmental side of football, in the SSL Academy. What happens from there is anyone's guess.
