London, England
As the minor season is scheduled to get underway, João Mendes got his chance to participate in two friendlies with his new team, Inter London. When his coach told him he would be starting both games in midfield, he knew this was his first chance to impress his new team and their fans.
The first game they took on Seoul MFC, a team that just finished right under London last season, so this was going to be a pre-season test to know where the team is at. Luke Walker opened the scoring for Seoul in the 14th minute, making a great run behind Hutchinson Jr. after a great through ball from Doug II. Inter London tie the game halfway through the second half after a trailing Mendes is left unmarked in the box as he goes off the post and in to beat Twinkletoes. Inter London found the late winner in the 83rd minute, and O'Neill found Cain in behind to give them the victory. Mendes, after not scoring once in the academy season, gets an early pre-season goal to boost his confidence.
The second and last friendly saw Inter London take on Montreal United, who were relegated to the second division after only winning one game last season. Although Inter London dominated the game with 20 shots compared to 2 for Montreal United, the only goal of the game came from Arthur Cain in the 88th minute, after a great headed through ball from McZehrl allowed Cain to slot it past Hernandez.
Inter London was able to come away with two victories in their friendlies, a strong start to what should be a fun season for the organization. They are hoping they can build on this moment and get their shot at promotion to the first division. With Mendes' strong showing in pre-season, he will likely start in their first game against Montreal United.
