Being more familiar with American sports, I am used to having a mascot/nickname for my sports teams like location + something. I am not sure if these teams already have a ‘something’ so I am going to suggest a couple somethings that I think would be suitable for them. Hopefully I got the locations correct.
Victoria Falls – Zimbabwe
Thundering Smoke – From what I can tell the indigenous tribes refer to the falls as Mosi-oa-Tunya and ‘Thundering Smoke’ is more or less what it translates to. That’s a very unique and cool team nickname.
PS Jakarta – Indonesia
A couple options here – Javan Hawk-eagle (national bird) or Komodo dragon (national animal). The Javan Hawk-eagle has a dark crest and a dark brown body. A distinct looking bird. Komodo dragons are badass. It is very hard to pass up Komodo dragons, so that is the direction I would go.
Istanbul FK – Turkey
Empire – This area is known for different empires. Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman. Gives me Star Wars vibes.
Adowa Accra FC – Ghana
Golden Warriors – Ghana is known as the Gold Coast since it is the largest producer of gold in Africa. Ghana translates to ‘Warrior King’. Combining both seems fitting.
Stockholm IK – Sweden
Forest Kings – Moose is the national animal of Sweden. My understanding is Swedes call the moose Skogens Konung (The King of the Forest). I think Forest Kings sounds better than moose.
Port Royal FC – Jamaica
Pirates – Port Royal has a history as a famous hub for pirates. Also Port Royal Pirates flows very nicely.
Sydney City - Australia
Kangaroos - It’s right there in the logo. Easy
Atletico – Spain
Conquistadors – Going back to the 16th century for this one. When you’re presented with a conqueror as an option for a sports team name you have to take it.
