Why not offense?
That was a question that Kaz was asked in his early days of playing. Most of the kids argued over where they wanted to play. Most wanted to be the heroes they saw on TV, the ones on all the highlights scoring the goals that would lead their team to victory. Some wanted to play goaltender, which he never quite understood. But not him, he wanted something different.
"I want to be one of the biggest and baddest. What's better than seeing your opponent's hope vanish from their eyes because they can't get the ball past you?"
Okay, that might have been a bit evil, but he thought he sounded cool saying it. So naturally, he became a defender. Central Defender, and he started off his career rather wild and aggressive. He soon learned that he needed to play smarter and cleaner, or else the Cards would decide he'd be off the field. That wouldn't do; he wanted to play the whole game. So instead, he channeled that aggression into focus. He'd learn to mark players, become like a shadow to them. Make them the frustrated ones. They'd make mistakes, and he'd gleefully send the ball up the field to let his team score. Technique would be his weapon, and he'd want to be one of the sharpest weapons of them all.
