The Season 27 SSL draft is upon us. There have been many mock drafts released, and it appears that the consensus has keeper Ahmad Ampharos going among the last players selected. While young, he has a lot of untapped potential and his size and length cannot be overlooked. He does not have as much experience as some of the others in the draft, but he and his agent, atw2592, think that his physical traits will be enticing to some of the general managers looking for keepers. Like in hockey, soccer is a hard sport to project good goaltending. "Keeper", as referred in soccer terms, can be very mentally taxing, and teams are hesitant to use a top pick on a keeper due to the uncertain nature of how guys will translate once they get in the spotlight of the pro game. Ahmad is only 17 year old and will undoubtedly have a large challenge ahead of him to make the pro league. His father, Hitmonlee, was a great keeper at the pro level in his time. His wonderful aerial kicking saves became a staple of his game and wowed fans throughout France. Those same fans will be pulling hard for his son to follow in those same footsteps in the SSL.
