Academy Task 5: Reykjavik goalscorers
#1
I joined this league all the way back in July of 2022. Over those 5 years, much has happened in Reykjavik. League titles were won. Tons of cup finals were lost. Some were won as well. But one thing that has been more or less a constant in the league is that Rey has had a dominant goalscorer terrorizing defenses. This past season, Del Pirlo crossed the 200 total goal mark and landed himself sole ownership of 5th place on the all-time list. That is a truly fantastic accomplishment and a staggering total that you can find in the index. And if you do look that up, you might notice that the player he passed most recently was Ricky Bobby. And if you use your eagle eyes, you might notice that Ricky was also a Reykjavik/North Shore product! Those two players alone have bagged almost 400 career goals. Del Pirlo is still active and trying to get them tally even more to cross them over that threshold in the coming season. But Russ! You didn't even mention one of the greatest Mikko Rashfords of all time; Rashford II! They are 9th on the all time list with only 9 goals less than Ricky Bobby. So as you can see, Reykjavik truly does have an incredible goal-scoring tradition that has been pretty continuous for at least the whole time I have been around the league.

And in an attempt to continue that tradition, I previously created my player, Bimitar Derbatov as a Striker. Across my entire sim league career (dating back to my start with the ISFL in early 2020), I had never really had an offensive threat of a player. All of my ISFL players had been on the Defensive side of the ball, and even Tata Youre was more of a Cm roamer, than a creative goal threat. So, when I created Bimi, it was as a Striker with one thing in mind; Ball in net! Things started pretty hot and heavy in the Div 2 where I bagged 23 goals and 15 assists across a couple seasons. But, somewhere along the way, Bimi lost his hunger for ball in net, and felt a need to help others feel the joy of ball in net. I moved to a more Central Midfield role in order to help make some moves during expansion, but with that came a big drop off in sniffing the goal. But now, the time has come for Karry Hane to enter the league and start adding goals to his register in order to find himself among the ranks of the other goal-scoring kings of Reykjavik. I want to tally goals and bring silverware back to Iceland at the same time. And while some of you may find yourselves trying to make jokes about my doppelganger, Harry Kane, not winning things for most of his career, I'd like to point out that he's broken his curse in Germany while also racking up more goals than ever! And his former club Tottenham also broke their streak by winning a European trophy in 2024. If there ever was a time to bring this player to life, it's now!
