MD1 first impressions

So the season has started and the first matches have been played. I thought it would be good to have some first impressions. I will just look at some of the results that I found interesting/surprising.


I think Minors played out mostly how I expected, if I had to pick a match to be the most surprising it would probably be Kaapstad 1 - 2 Rapid Magyar. It was clear Kaapstad was not going to be as good this season as previous, but I still expected them to beat this Magyar team. Is this a fluke or will Kaapstad struggle even more than expected.


For Majors there was 1 MASSIVE upset. Romana 4 - 2 Shanghai. Shanghai who are poised to absolutely walk the league this season get a defeat in their first match. I do not think anyone saw this one coming. Now it will be interesting to see what this actually signals. Was this just a fluke or will Shanghai carry their bad luck into this season. For AC Romana will this be the season they finally turn the corner and start competing for that promotion?


A smaller surprise was Tokyo performing so well against Xelaju, possibly bad signs for the freshly relegated team.
