GRADED: Academy Task 5: S27 Draft Class Moderately Shallow Dive
#1
The S27 draft class is looking to be a very solid crop of young athletes, with 43 active users and another six who have at least earned some TPE past the base 250. Overall, this is a very defensively oriented class, with six goalkeepers above 320 TPE, as well as the top three players being two wingbacks and a central defender. Attacking options are still strong but mainly limited to midfielders, as four of the top ten players by TPE are attacking midfielders, and only His Cheeseburger is playing primarily the striker position. Options in later rounds are still looking to be fruitful though, and Karry Hane and Bonnibel Bubblegum both sit around the 360 TPE mark, and defensemen like Meisho Doto or Idris Nelson are options for teams looking to pick up a defensive anchor towards the later rounds of the draft.

Overall, I don’t think any position really is lacking in this draft. Any position in need by teams will have options either in the first round or in later rounds and still seem to be good options. The only archetype that really seems to be lacking is the defending midfielder, as the only one who has that selected as their primary position is Callum Wiggins, at 332 TPE. Teams looking to bolster defensively but already having a solid back line will be fighting over Wiggins as well as other midfielders who might be able to play further back. Cal McRae has defensive midfield listed as a secondary position, but nobody else seems to be taking up that particular spot on the field. Teams in need will need to either find a draft prospect willing to play the more defensive role, or play around with their formation to better figure out how to navigate this crop of prospects.

One position that will be very intriguing to look at is the goalkeeper position. Per the positional tracker on the Portal, there are 26 active goalies and only 24 teams, so goalies towards the back end of this draft might find themselves fighting to get playing time if they stick with their position. Currently, the goalie prospects are Swiss Cheese (384 TPE), Slim Towered (381 TPE), Kazeno Kagenori (354 TPE), Ciaphas Cain (352 TPE), Bastien Deschamps (333 TPE), and Ahmad Ampharos (322 TPE). These net tenders have separated into three pairs, with Cheese and Towered being the clear frontrunners for teams looking at goalies, Kagenori and Cain being solid mid-round options, and Deschamps and Ampharos being the unlucky two who may have to fight for playing time, assuming the four teams in need of a goalkeeper pick by TPE order, which is not a guarantee! Each of these prospects seems to be taking their build in a different way.  Ampharos and Cain are focusing on their reach ability, Deschamps on his reflexes, agility, and positioning, Kagenori and Cheese are going for an all-around build, while Towered is mainly focusing on agility and reflexes but also branching out into reach, command, and communication. Teams will have a great selection to pick from but also a difficult choice as to who they wish to target.
