It sucks getting relegated to division two, but there is nothing we can do now. We need to pick ourselves up and focus on the main goal, which is to get promoted back up to Division One right away. It all starts with the pre-season friendlies, where we can test our tactics and play with our new teammates. Especially after the expansion draft and losing some members of the organization, these two games are a great way to get the new season started.
The first friendly saw Inter London tie Montreal United 2-2. London's striker Benjamin Munro scored two goals, with Ryan O'Neill and Jimothy Erickson on the assists. London played extremely well in this one with 25 shots and 12 on target, with 39% possession. On another day, a few more goals would've gone in. This was a good way to kick off the season against a division one team.
The second friendly was against a new organization, SD Guaydaquil. The game ended 0-0, but Inter London did play on the front foot with 16 shots compared to the opposition's 7. Inter London was controlling the game and led on the expected goals. Jimothy Erickson was the player of the match and was arguably the best player over the two games.
Mendes was happy to get two solid performances, and it was good to get 180 minutes in the legs. He continued to gain chemistry with his midfield partner, Pope Francis. They are looking to dominate the field in this upcoming season as they are amongst the best in Division Two. With this potentially being Mendes' final season, depending on what management thinks, he wants to have a great showing.
